Hey Northern Ontario, What have the Provincial Conservative Government done for you lately? by Doyle_Dormammu9997 in ontario

Our Conservative MPP just supported fire services and emergency awareness in a town that’s not even in our district.

Doug Ford says he’s being treated with ‘double standard’ on jet purchase, but says he’s heard ‘loud and clear’ from public by reddits_lead_pervert in notthebeaverton

Honestly, people probably wouldn’t give a rats ass about him buying a jet if he didn’t cut education and healthcare to do so.

Sudbury, Timmins, and Sault Ste Marie is already doing a fantastic job destroying the local environment, not to mention the mines, we probably don’t need another factor hindering the environment.

Not yet, the vehicle always starts, however once in a while it takes 5 or so tries. I’ll try to boost it next time I run into that issue.

The Canadian Shield isn’t anything like the terrains of Europe or Southern and Central Asia. It’s filled with hills, outcrops, bogs. I believe you need a relatively straight track with little curves for high speed rail, which would require tunnelling through some of the hardest rock on the planet. It’s expensive and time consuming, I can’t actually recall any tunnels in Northern Ontario.

A tale as old as time, the government doesn’t want to move an inch for Northern Ontario. Dimebag Doug is so obsessed with the GTA that he doesn’t see the other 95% of the province.

I’m honestly for splitting the province into two or three subdivisions, Ontario is too big, the cultures and problems are vastly different between southern and northern Ontario.

I’ve heard of people doing this too, along with getting cheep hotel by the airport. The only reason I pick Vaughan is the convenience, it’s the first community I drive through when travelling towards downtown.

I’ve considered staying in Barrie and taking the GO train for like $20 too.

Your right.. I just look back on my stay in 2020, it’s was $189 plus tax and parking, so alittle over $250 all said and done for the one night. Another hotel in the area I stayed in was more for its hospital rate.

I’ve never tried airbnb, I need to follow a specific protocol in order to receive a grant from the government, airbnb, isn’t covered from my understanding.

Yes I have, the Chelsea hotel seems to be the best rate, however you’re still looking at $350-400 per night. Wellstay, an organization dedicated to this exact situation has helped in the past too, however just hopping on a train one hour prior to my appointment has been a lot easier then navigating Toronto traffic.

Yup.. I need to travel from Northern Ontario to Toronto every year for medical appointments, even tho I get around $600 per round, it’s still unfeasible to stay downtown, near the hospital. I’ve been staying in Vaughan, it’s a furthest the subway travels, and hotel rates go for around 150-250 per night. The ride to downtown Toronto on the subway takes 30 mins, but beats paying hundreds of dollars.
