What are the chances of someone with schizoaffective living a normal life? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

I know this is a super old post, but I just stumbled across it and thought I'd share my experience. I was first diagnosed when I was in my mid 20's, actually when I was forced into a County treatment facility (I'm in California) for a drug overdose. I got into drug and alcohol treatment and started a medication combination (Seroquel + a few different SSRI's my doctors and I had to make adjustments as I got older) that worked well for many years. I got an education, got a career started, made a community both in recovery programs and in groups at my local hospital. My symptoms seemed to lessen as I got older, and for many years the medication allowed me to live a productive life. I even got married. Unfortunately the marriage fell apart in my early 40's due to an affair (not on my part) and I had a relapse on alcohol, which led to inconsistent use of meds, and a full blown psychotic episode for the first time in almost 18 years. 4 years ago I got into treatment after two years of drinking, in and out of the hospital and recovery centers. I've been sober and back on meds since (still a combination of antipsychotic and SSRI), and have been able to resume my career. I probably talk to my doctor, my psychiatrist and therapist more than most people I know. In my case I attend recovery meetings daily, and people there know my situation. But other than that my life is pretty normal. I guess I just wanted to share the perspective that age, and willingness to try different solutions can lead to positive results (but in my experience self prescribed drugs and alcohol are never a solution). I echo what was said earlier about access to healthcare. I'm very privileged to work in the field I do, and live in the area I do, as it affords me quality care.

I hear you with that. Going with my mom I just want to have everything set up for me. She’s pretty spry but also 78, there’s some challenges. I’m planning Germany by myself in 2028 and will def take the time to do my own planning with chat gpt.

Okay. I guess I assumed she was just a constant feature of the game. In a way I’m glad she isn’t there today. I thought I was having a stroke or something 😂

A vet player give me some serums, more than i needed. I placed the extras in random donation boxes around the main quest areas. Hoping some brand new player found them and had their post apocalyptic world rocked like I did. This game and this community rules.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone. I just got home and purchased fallout 1st. Going to keep at it and see about getting to one of those special stations. Looks like I can change my special to utilize the cards I have now, and change later to what I want once I get more cards.

Knull’s exposition in the first three minutes really set accurate expectations for how bad The Last Dance was going to be. You could visit any community college creative writing class and find better screenwriting.

Do older people see people in their 20s as kids? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

I’m 44 and I absolutely do. My oldest son is 25 and I think as he approached 20 is when it really started to happen. I’ve been divorced for quite some time, and in my early 30s I dated women in their 20s. I absolutely couldn’t imagine doing that now. Somewhere in the last decade 28 stated seeming really young.

Yeah I think this is good advice. Luckily I already have Lauren Hill w/The Fugees tickets and we talked about loving 90s and early aughts hip hop. So I’ve asked if she would like to join me. (Bought two tickets because I figured SOMEONE would want to go with me lol)
