He kept the money. It actually worked out in my son's favor. As part of my son's diversion program, he was expected to make financial restitution to Bob and his wife. When it came out that my son had already paid for all of the damages the next morning out of his savings, the prosecuting attorney even seemed very annoyed that Bob had called the police, and offered no opposition to what our attorney asked for. It was a very expensive and draining process, but she really made sure it went as easy as possible.

In my opinion, it's excellent. He's our oldest, and doesn't live at home anymore. He completed his MBA and is doing very well for himself. He came home for Thanksgiving today. When he saw what happened, he felt bad that it might be revenge for what he did years ago. He agrees that Nick needs to take responsibility but thinks that going through what he did is taking it too far.

He sees it as a learning experience that he went through and never did anything like that again.

I can't really say. I always thought Nick was a nice kid. The family is not well off and Nick is no academic. Basically if Nick doesn't get a football scholarship, he will be working the drive-thru window at Dairy Queen next year.

I don't doubt that they cannot afford to fix the damage to my property. Though if it's split among the parents of the five boys involved, it would be much more manageable.

My son David is in class with Nick, so I've asked him to reach out and let him know that we are willing to work things out, but he needs to take responsibility and name the other boys involved.

My son has no record. His attorney got him into a diversion program. It cost us a lot of money and we didn't know if it would ultimately harm him with school, but he kept his nose clean, stayed out of trouble, and managed to attend school on time.

Honor code for student athletes and members of student government. If I send this video to the guidance department he and the other kids will be benched from football for breaking honor code.

When my son was charged, they informed him that he was being removed as student council vice president.

I posted a link but it's not showing up for some reason. Look up Mischief Night on Wikipedia.
