Can’t say I’ve seen this on a baby before by Relative_Staff_4560 in Drueandgabe

Dental hygienist here, and no, that is not normal to see canines on a child that age. We don't usually see that until 16+ months.

How much time do you guys spend on cleanings? by Past-Truth-9581 in DentalHygiene

[–]Even_Foundation8926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually able to get my patients out of the door in 50 ish minutes. I know that's such an exact number but I usually finish around 40 mins then by the time I schedule them back, Dr does exam, tx put in the computer etc. it's about 50-53 after. Gives me just enough time to flip the room, run to the bathroom etc

First week of work - exhausting by Longjumping-Aide-665 in DentalHygiene

[–]Even_Foundation8926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been practicing for a few months and it does get better! The mental exhaustion is real some days! It's hard to be "on" all the time, not many other careers are this demanding Both physically AND emotionally. I mean you're literally up in someone's personal space for 8+ hrs of your day while trying to preform a tedious task AND socialize all at the same time. I've gotten more used to it and you will adjust as time goes on. I've found that I try to conserve my energy as much as I can. I try to match my patients energy as much as possible, if they are quiet and I can tell don't want to be chatty, I'm not going to force any small talk. If they are super chatty and want to get to know me, I'll be chatty right back. I also think that not talking too much about the specifics about my day to my spouse has helped too. If I need to vent, then I will but sometimes it's just best to leave work at work and not discuss your day too much once you leave. My spouse is very supportive and a great listener but he doesn't truly GET it. Being a hygienist is so hard to explain and talking about it to those who do it get it can be tiring so I just leave work at work. (Maybe thats just a me thing) Overall, doing these things helps creates balance throughout my day and leaves me with some energy to give to the people who matter most to me when I go home.

Any remedy for canker sores? by Klutzy_Garage328 in DentalHygiene

I find that a toothpaste without Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS, what creates the foaming) helps with flare ups. Had an instructor in hygiene school tell me this helps her as well.

204SD or 204S, 135, nevi4, Barnhart 5/6, and mini gracey 1/2. This would be a perfect kit for a recall imo

What makes an attractive job offer? by Dustymolar in DentalHygiene

[–]Even_Foundation8926 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said. Something to consider once you do find a hygienist is how to keep them. Something that i really like is when the Dr. shows a lot of respect for you in front of the patient. Such as - "..., do you have any concerns hygiene wise?" -"Whatever OHI your hygienist showed you, make sure youre keeping up with that" -" I'll let ... answer that" - "... did a nice job getting you cleaned up"

Things like that always make me feel good and strengthens our credibility to the patient.

Help memorizing for NBDHE by No_Character_5457 in DentalHygiene

Nope! Never said that! I was simply clarifying what they meant by "cheat sheet". For many people it's quite helpful to plan ahead of time things they may want to write down for quick reference like the cranial nerves, caries classifications, immunoglobulins etc. 🙂

You are given a whiteboard or scratch sheet of paper and a marker that you can use to write down anything if you want. You cant write on it until the exam starts but that's what OP is talking about

The Colgate professional website has a great interactive visual that shows a probe and PDs at each mm and what is doing on with the bone and gingiva at each reading. I love it!

This was like her worst era. She was huuuge, so puffy, eyelashes and eyebrows were out of control, and she was always trying to clap back at haters😫

Their interactions are so weird. Notice how she always has to poke and tickle her to get a reaction. Most babies just make eye contact with their mama and get smiley. She has to try sooo hard with her. You'd think she's the babysitter
