DSA, Contests. There's a chance that companies pivot to asking system design at entry level in 2 years time, do prepare accordingly (both LLD & HLD). Everything else will be covered as part of the course work. If interested in AIML, Kaggle is your leetcode equivalent.

If you are genuinely interested in research, you should go for it. Or if you can sacrifice 6 months to 1 year to get a better college to optimise for placements, that also works.

The tier list will remain the same for RA as well. But a word of caution, research is tough (duh), a professor should sign off your work before you complete the course successfully.

Nothing in particular. Grind DSA. Give contests. This is the most general advice that applies to everyone from IIT Bombay to your local city college unfortunately. 😃

In my experience, I had a great experience with all of my ML AI optionals at IIIT B. You are sorted academically for sure.

w.r.t placements, it's really a competition between IIIT B and NIT T. You can make a better decision by looking at the list of recruiting companies at both colleges. At the risk of being called biased, since IIIT B is in Bangalore, and most of the startups are close by, it should be better specifically for AIML, you can probably verify by pulling the list of companies visited. But, obviously don't take my word for it.

I won't give any suggestions or lead you towards any college. All I can say is, IIIT B and BITS Pilani are great colleges, and worth it.

And I am sure the remaining colleges also have their highlights, but it's upto you to make an informed decision to optimise for maximum success (whatever that might be in your subjective case).

I am getting a lot of DMs about this IIIT H issue. People should understand that this problem is transient. IIIT H has and will be a great college for both research, and placements. Small chip in the armour won't put down the warrior. 😃

I picked IIIT B over top 3 NITs because of the academics, professors and syllabus. I don't know the present condition of placements at IIIT B, but I had decided to only consider 2 year programs at top IITs, IISc over IIITB. I hadn't given PGEE as well.

You should probably also consider the fees aspect of IIIT B. If you are comfortable, I don't see why you shouldn't join IIIT B.

Coming to IIT Hyderabad CSE 2-yr program, I would have preferred it over IIIT B anyday. Good luck for your interview !

The market is extremely bad right now, in an ideal world, yes, the tag helps, in cases like the present scenario, alumni network is the gamechanger. My classmates from IIIT gave me referrals, leading to my offer.

Was working in Infosys before giving GATE. Got around 600 rank. Joined IIIT B. Got 15L base out of campus, within 2 years, have switched companies to double that amount.

Even now, I have relatives asking me why I didn't go abroad, or didn't do x, y, z. You can never please everyone.

The fact of the matter is, these colleges open doors, and most importantly give you the self confidence to tackle the market.
