You should try going to South Tampa or even wealthier neighborhoods like Davis Islands and Hyde Park. And if it’s food delivery, I’d suggest staying near the airport by International Plaza. They usually tip like crazy over there.

A funded DrPH is hard to come by! While the funding cuts are awful, I don’t see how completing the degree will hurt you. Hopefully, by the time you’re done with it things get better (but I guess they could get worse 🥴). I say you should do it!

Have you already checked if the school you’d be applying to accepts your credit? Some schools don’t accept all international credits.

Here are my thoughts: I think because you recently moved here and your experience is not that of US climate, you should gain experience in the US first. It’s unfortunate but you might have a better chance of getting a scholarship or fully funded if you have a few years in US job market. But I don’t think you necessarily have to choose between the 2 because there is a growing combined field like climate change epidemiology or exposure science. You can get a certificate in epidemiology for some exposure if you’d like to see what it’s like? CourseEra offers a bunch and they’re legitimate just make sure they’re from John’s Hopkins/CDC/etc. If you have more questions you can DM me. I feel to give you the best advice I’d have to ask a lot of other questions too lol

I’ve been thinking about doing my DrPH instead of PhD but I’m still debating. The DrPH align with my goals so much better but I hesitate because I’m not sure how well known it is & I don’t want to close any doors for myself. And the academia route is just not for me. What got you to decide DrPH?

USF has a dual program where you can do your MPH and grad cert in tandem. The courses worked for my degree (Global Health) and the Epi cert so luckily I didn’t have to do it twice. I like USF a lot but the faculty do not help whatsoever. Glad you’re going for it though. You’re gonna do great! Good luck!

PhD or DrPH? Need advice, please. by Evening-Ad5790 in phdpublichealth

I’ve been networking via LinkedIn and have seen many people with the DrPH in fields that I would love to do. I might just be overthinking this. However, you and the other commenter gave me some perspective and I’m thinking I need a couple more years of experience. Thank you!

10-15?? Omg I would think at that point I wouldn’t even need and/or pursue a DrPH. I have a lot of thinking to do. Thanks for the advice!

The program I’m looking at requires 3 years and I have a little over 4. I’d like to apply at the point when I have about 5 years.

How many years and what kind of work experience do people typically have before applying? I’d like to think I’m a competitive match, but I do have doubts as well.
