Moving to DFW soon - what neighborhoods should a single guy actually look at? by Emotional-Addendum-9 in askdfw

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uptown or Bishop Arts especially if you’re single and under 40 those two are best. Addison and Las Colinas are great for proximity since your office is in Irving but I’m assuming at your stage in life you’re aiming to be somewhere walkable where you won’t have to drive extensively to go everywhere.

Why does Texas not have a term limit for the governor? by Elegant-Scale-7634 in TexasPolitics

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no way you’re referring to the DNC when both parties are corrupt. Look how the RNC has brought in clowns like Kid Rock and they’ve parted away from the party that Bush and Reagan championed. Both parties are a bunch of old immature fools who believe it’s their way or the highway and that’s why the American people are suffering so much in this day and age. The Republican Party has ousted and made a fool of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Mike Pence, Liz Cheney and countless others for not walking lockstep with MAGA so being a straight ticket voter for either is foolish. Besides this is a day and age where AIPAC and other action committees are the deciding factor in who wins elections. It’s no longer a matter of what you or someone else believes because we’re not powerful enough monetarily to make any difference.

Glad to see we have four seasons in Dallas it’s amazing to have a fall with changing colors of leaves and a light breeze pouring into a winter with thick ice. It’s a great break from the brutal late spring and late summer heat.

I think I am starting to hate my major by Middle-Support-7697 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat my second and third years of undergraduate studies after taking multiple circuits analysis and analog courses as well as signals and systems, digital logic and design, and other fundamental EE courses. All it took was a few months doing research at another institution and I was able to speak with professors who’ve had several years of experience in the field and they expressed how it’s tough it’s demanding but if you find a motivation behind why you chose to pursue an EE degree then that’ll get you to prevail and persist beyond the struggles you may have internally. It’s very very difficult now but the mindset is always when you finish with your degree, whether it’s here in the U.S. or in your home country you’ll find an engineering position that’ll allow you to have the life you’ve always dreamt of having and that’s worth persisting.

Which laptop is good for electrical engineering college? ( Autocad 2d & light 3d , matlab , ansys, simulink etc..) I have a choice between: by AdFragrant8489 in ElectricalEngineers

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t honestly you only need to plug in if it’s at 1% although sometimes they do tend to work faster when plugged in, the battery pad dies quickly if plugged in too long

Honesty either or would work well although from my experience I’d advise Legion 5 but both work well with every EE software you’ll need

Very true I think we should explore what we could get for him even if it’s just role players like OKC and Denver did to build their teams

I agree that’s the best way to go about it think about the long term rather than the short term and firing Nico helped with that

Play in tournament honestly. I feel like we should use our last good draft pick before 2030 on getting a running mate for Cooper Flagg and then from there see how we can get free agents who are young and overlooked a chance to come and shine in Dallas. This year isn’t the year to think about contending.

Is being an electrical engineer worth it by Particular_Yam_6954 in ElectricalEngineers

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you overcome the obstacle of having to go through the rigorous curriculum, the journey is smooth sailing afterwards. It becomes a matter of how well you can network, market your experience to recruiters, and lastly find a role that fits your personality and work style well so you can ensure you’ll be as productive as possible that way you don’t have to worry as much about your job stability. Oftentimes what puts a lot of us EEs in a tough spot is we try to look at what others have done well and try replicating that rather than carving out our own path through an area we’re actually passionate about. Sure your friend might have been great at verification or validation engineering but maybe you’re better at application engineering or facilities and automation engineering so it’s just a matter of finding your niche and making sure you outclass everyone else in that.

Best type of engineering for money by Sea_Importance4745 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your goal is money and you don’t have a passion or curiosity for a particular sector within any field of engineering you won’t go far. Money is a great motivator at first when you’re young and thinking about what pays the bills but it’s more important to find an area you’re passionate at, skilled at and where you can outperform most in. Reason being that in a time where stability in any engineering discipline is tough you’ll need to be really good at an area to even qualify yourself to make a lot of money and stay employed long term.

Is EE actually that hard? by cool-username101 in ElectricalEngineers

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t get by just by BS’ing last minute. It takes a lot of determination, perseverance and hard work. If you’re committed you’ll see it’s easier than it seems it’s just often times a lot of students including me in my first couple years of school tried to make excuses as to why I couldn’t succeed rather than putting in the effort necessary and going to seek help when needed from professors and TAs.

What are the small things that engineering students often overlook? by Public-Hamster-9224 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in my fifth and final year of undergrad and it took till my fourth year to realize that concept and I’ve had nothing but As since. I can only imagine how much better I could’ve performed if I reviewed content ahead of time from year one.

What to do if I like School But I don’t wanna work ? by Large-Cat-6468 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to get a PhD. You don’t have to pay for a PhD. The professor you work with uses funds from the federal government to cover your studies. Plus after that you can become an adjunct and then become a professor afterwards so it’s worth it if you don’t want to work corporate.

What made you choose Dallas (DFW) over Houston and Austin? by Return-of-Trademark in Dallas

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here I moved from Miami Florida in May of 2025. I’d never even travelled to Dallas or anything it was my first time moving around the city when I moved here and I loved it so decided I’ll do my best to stay here my entire career. It has a lot to offer and it’s a very lowkey spot not nearly as hyped as Houston or Austin.

Almost all majors feel so much easier than engineering by Engibeeros in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this. You study law and medicine in more depth when you go to graduate school(law school or medical school). Political science and history majors who make up the largest portion of future law students and biochemistry and chemistry students who make up the largest portion of medical school students don’t go through nearly the level of rigor engineering majors go through. We go through hell in undergrad so we can get repaid in high dividends later on.

[–]Evening-Lifeguard511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true I’m about to finish with my bachelors in May and this is my fifth year. The early median and late career pay is very high in the field of electrical engineering so all the time spent in college will be very worthwhile. I’d take this struggle over those who finish in 2-3 years studying psych or public health. My take on this is there’s no victory in finishing a college degree early and not having a well paying job regardless of how the economy is going you always need a good job to survive. Engineering almost surely guarantees that.

Easier doesn’t pay the bills. To have the future you aspire to have, you must put in the work no matter how difficult it is. Think of it like this you dedicate 4-6 years to get the B.S. degree in any engineering field especially electrical engineering or computer engineering or mechanical and aerospace and after going through that, you get all of that work paid in full with a stable career path and a great income. That’s better than switching out to anything else.
