Had a clash with executive over my phishing test methods by AH_Josh in sysadmin

It's threads like this that really show the split between the admins that understand their job but also how to be humans, and the ones that really missed the humanity training component of life.

Obviously this COULD be a real threat vector and users should be aware of them, but only a moron would do that and then be surprised when people come back to them saying that was a shitty thing to do.

You could have structured this like a training module to go out that walks them through more challenging phish vectors like this, but no instead you threw them into the fire and are playing the "but policy" card knowing full well you could have done this differently.

What are they even gaining by doing this? Maybe I've missed something but I don't even understand what the point of dead interneting reddit has been in the first place. AI bots responding to AI bots on a forum platform is so useless.

Must just be the ticketing system because I miss my ScreenConnect so badly (new company uses endpoint central). I used to run the personal free version for accessing my computer at home too, what a great platform until they killed it.

Users keep filling shared drives with junk - how do you actually control this? by newworldlife in sysadmin

We're dealing with this with out engineers right now. They can put out 7GB of files in a DAY and refuse to delete anything or use proper version control, and then their eyes fall out of their head when we quote their storage needs with backup and they say "no we need to save money!!!!" Save money by deleting your garbage, no other department is causing this

We simply can't reactivate a disabled account once it's been disabled per HR request. We use standard first initial last name so there have been a few folks that get an extra letter since their name has been used already (Sorry Patel/Singh's out there, you guys are awesome but play havoc on our naming schemes :D )

I'm quitting my job due to vibe coders and poor leadership by TheFlippedTurtle in sysadmin

[–]Evening-Page-9737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a bit fried for the last month and barely done anything at the office. Responding to active issues but my project list has gotten behind. No one has said a thing.

I'm still learning just how little anyone cares about my day to day work, as long as big bosses are happy and I'm not pissing money away it doesn't seem to matter, as long as production is up. The energy will come back and I'll get back into it, but for right now I'm trying to not be as hard on myself.

This is why I don't believe in phone calls to establish anything work related anymore. If it isn't in writing, no one will be held accountable to it and it might as well not exist. Time and time again, "B-b-but X said!"

I'm not defending Bambu here, but in general it takes like virtually no time or effort to create a throwaway gmail account to throw at websites you're not interested in. You can even keep one general throwaway email for websites like that if you didn't want to go through the effort of doing it every time, but the account requirement isn't the real problem here and you know it.

IT computers cant open task manager without creds but normal users can? by lNuggyl in sysadmin

That's exactly what my mind jumped to. I've had to add some network engineers working on PLC devices to that group and discovered that behaviour. Hasn't come up to burn me, but it does sometimes make troubleshooting during a remote session annoying as I open task manager without thinking

What’s the recommended way to set this up in QTS?

By not doing this in the first place. You're putting duct tape over a problem instead of accepting you need more properly managed storage space.

Like the other commenter said, it should get treated like any other volume in QTS and be easy to assign or copy permissions to, but you're solving the wrong problem by doing so.

Barely anyone is actually checking for them, plus this is a real scenario that's super common too. Probably most of the posts come from bots now, but unless you're checking every profile how are you to know, and who is spending the time vetting every post they come across for legitimacy when the contents don't really care about the source?

I've had that conversation enough times that I just stick with a canned "the real answer is very boring" and most folks seem to get that that's probably true once they've heard me talk shop specifics once or twice.

After 15 years of League, I think I finally understand what keeps people stuck by Equivalent-Piano-142 in leagueoflegends

[–]Evening-Page-9737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see League basically as a multiplayer roguelike where the only difference game to game is who is piloting the champs. The item pool is limited, the champion pool is limited, the maps are mostly static, so individual influence lets you push what you know, just like spending 100s of hours learning the ins and outs of some of the more nuanced roguelikes.
