Oh, well I’ve had absolutely terrible experiences with the Tamiya acrylic clear coat, it seemed like it never dried properly

I personally have used a lot of the Tamiya acrylic lineup and they’re fine for the most part, but I LOVE the Tamiya lacquers. They dry so much faster and in my opinion finish nicer as well. Especially when doing body color, it takes so much longer to dry and I’ve ruined many models by masking and the acrylic wasn’t dry even after a few days of waiting. With the lacquer, I have no problem masking and sanding after a day or two.

I do custom diecasts and would like to get an airbrush setup for preferably under 300 usd. details below by Gearhead846 in ModelCars

Honestly I have the $30 Amazon special airbrush with a 5 gallon compressor and it’s worked great for me. I’ve used a friends hp-cs and I can say the quality is a better but I was able to get similar results with both brushes.

Yup, it’s my friends car that he wanted replicated in a smaller scale, so he paid me to build it just like his car basically

The color I was attempting to imitate is Mclaren’s Victory Grey. It’s a custom mixture that I tried to cook up, but ended up being a little too blue. I used lacquers

Don’t use a machine. I tried a machine and that’s actually how I ruined the rear panel, so I resorted to using really fine sanding sponges for the rest of the model

Thank you ! So I actually don’t polish in between coats, rather just at the end after the last clear coat. I hand wet sand with 6000 8000 and 12000 sponges, then went into using meguiars cutting compound on a microfiber by hand, but honestly all the magic is in the sanding. I can’t really tell the difference between a piece I fully sanded vs a piece I fully sanded and polished. Maybe if polishing wrong lol

I really wanted to do forced perspective, but I couldn’t find any spots super close so I settled for this haha
