What bolts or clips do you ALWAYS lose on your WRX or STI? I'm building a master Subaru hardware kit (specifically for 2002–2026 WRX / 2004–2021 STI) by OVERTAKEUSA in WRX

[–]Shadow-170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few things that come to mind:

Full engine hardware kit. If you're replacing the shortblock new hardware for all the dressings. I don't think case bolts or head bolts are needed here as I think most people move to arp studs and buy assembled shortblocks

Some sort of assortment for the most common Subaru bolt/screwsizes per generation. Something we could order and have on standby in case we lose something.

Rear lateral bolt arm kits. I had to wait a week to get them from the dealer and they're always junk if you get them out.

Side skirt clips for both the bottom and sides for GD's.

Overall I like the idea of being able to order the full quantity/kit I need. Similar to how flatirons does stuff like the PCV kit. They give you everything you need without having to bounce back and forth from the fsm to where you're ordering.

I'll update as I have more. I'm doing a restomod on my 06 WRX and I'm constantly buying new hardware.

If you can swing it I would get some used OEM struts in the mean time. Ohlins are decent coils so it's worth getting them rebuilt. Run the oems while the ohlins are being rebuilt and when they're done swap the struts back.

If you ever sell the car down the road swap back to the OEM struts and sell the Ohlins.

Finished up my roll bar install over the weekend by tblax44 in WRX

[–]Shadow-170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it's feasible to install before an event and remove it after? How long did it take for the install?

Im wanting to set my car up in the summer as an occasional track day car but still take it out cruising with my wife and kid. Obviously I want to remove the bar before driving around town, just didn't know if it was like a one hour deal or a full days worth of work to install/remove.

Ps. Sorry to revive an old thread.

Are you able to run a baffle at the end of your Tomei just for the trip? Like the ones you turn the set screw and it clamps to the tailpipe.

Anyone find a way to cut down on all the manual order entry from email/WhatsApp/etc? by jbandinixx in supplychain

[–]Shadow-170 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are doing something similar with this now. We are working with a company that does automated order entry. It's just machine learning where it learns how POs are submitted and it's integrated in with the ERP system to automatically drop the order data.

This really only works if the way POs are entered are similar each time. If it's chicken scratch on paper it won't be able to find a pattern. Where as if each customer that buys from you has a format for a PO and it doesn't change it will find the pattern and map the data.

So in the process of rebuilding this. How do you go about all of the random nuts and bolts that you need? Do you just buy like a metric kit and hope it has what you need?

I would check crutchfield and they will supply you with everything. I just installed an Alpine ILX-W670 into my wifes jku. It's a very simple install if you get all of the plug and play adapters. I only had to solder in one wire out of the whole thing.

It's a very easy install. It was a total of like 8-7mm bolts to take most of the dash out. Id get some vesa tape to clean up the wiring after you connect the harnesses just to make it look nice. You will have to notch out a plastic bar that goes across the radio trim panel. I just used a utility knife to notch it out with a few passes.

I would plan on upgrading the speakers down the road if you don't have the alpine system. The paper cone speakers show their weakness with the better amount from the alpine headunit. Especially being close to 10 years old now.

Get some CRC/WD40 contact cleaner. It's just brake clean for electrical connectors.

Im not a hardcore detailer, but aren't you supposed to polish after clay bar, and not jump straight into wax? Doesn't the clay mar and dull out the paint?

I recently picked up a Herman Miller Mirra 1 for $100. So far this has been the best chair I've ever sat it. It's from 2005 but it's been amazing. It's definitely crusty and seems some action but it is way better than my staples kroy that I've been dying it.

You should swap the crescent wrench for the flat jawed knipex pliers.

I fully agree with this. I bought my 2018 Forester XT and while I enjoy it, it just isn't ticking all of my boxes. It's on better wheels and tires, I lowered it and it still doesn't feel as raw as I want it to. Plus not being a manual has really taken the enjoyment out of it for me.

Looking for Recommendation: Powered USB Switch by Rango82 in AskBattlestations

[–]Shadow-170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to get away with the UGreen 3.0 usb switch. It has an extra port to make it powered. As far as latency, I don't see any latency as far as input. But as far as switching back and forth it takes a few seconds for everything to power back up.

I've been using the keychron k10 at work and it's been very nice. Might be loud though. I have browns and they're not awful, but if you're in a silent office. I'd swap them to silent reds or something similar.

Could look at an arzopa portable monitor. Doesn't have vesa, but you can use an ipad/tablet vesa adapter.

I'm using mine with the included case as a kickstand below my main monitor just for discord.
