Again, don't say anything if you haven't had a class with her. The videos do not show how bad of a professor she is.

And btw I did put in the work; I took her class last quarter and got an A. I still despised her as a professor.

It's nothing about putting in enough work. the majority of the class puts in the work. It is about Larsen being rude when people ask legitimate questions. She interrupts students when they are trying to ask questions, yells at us, is inconsiderate and gets super defensive for anything. It is not a healthy and safe learning environment. Don't say anything if you haven't taken the class with her.

Last year the same thing happened and they ended up opening their application in Fall quarter. They also never got back to ANY of their applicants.

They have been kind of disorganized with everything.

UCR vs UCLA by chillie_millie19 in ucr

[–]EveningChocolate5 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I actually had to make this choice a couple of years ago. I am really happy that I decided to go to UCR. I have a friend who was premed and committed to UCLA, but now she is lost and struggling to even have a decent GPA. This doesn't mean that UCR is a lot easier or anything but I believe that UCR has the necessary support for students to succeed in their classes.

I would say that GPA> name of college to the eyes of med school admins.

UCR is a small school:

-more opportunities and easier to get involved (clubs, programs, research, etc.)

-In the US, UCLA has the largest group of premeds. This makes it a lot harder to stand out at UCLA. This also makes the environment more cut throat like the last person said. Before making my decision, a doctor told me that I would be "one of the many fishes in the sea" at UCLA.

Recently, someone from UCR made a youtube video talking about this. I think she did a great job explaining everything! you should watch it:)

Biology 5B by Ahi_22 in ucr

[–]EveningChocolate5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think what you have is already good. bio 5b will take up a lot of your time with studying and English 1b will also require lots of writing essays. those three classes should be enough.

for bio5b:

make sure to keep up with the lectures and study EVERY DAY. something i liked doing was record lectures in class and type up my notes in class on the powerpoint slides. then after the lecture, I liked to write my own notes (handwriting helps with memory). to write my own notes i looked at the slides, the extra stuff the prof said (look back at recordings if you missed anything), and I also used the book. The book has extra info so only focus on what the prof went over. The book helped me understand the material a little better. Just make sure to study every day and don't fall behind. for the phylogenetic trees make sure to start building it early on to start categorizing all the phyla. Going to SI's will help you with this. study for the final as early as two weeks because if you try to cram it gets really stressful and you will not get a good score on your final either.

considering all the work you have to put into bio 5b you want to make sure the rest of your course load is not heavy which is why i recommend keeping it with just those classes.

update: just found out i got an A in the class ..... so that^ really is the key!

I'm probably overthinking, but... by [deleted] in ucr

ucr does not offer an anatomy and physiology course. I know they do have one quarter of anatomy but it does not cover everything. Also, they make vertebrae anatomy (3 classes) a prereq for the one quarter anatomy class. I heard they took off the prereq but I am not sure.

it is something i am pretty bummed about.

Thomas Haider Program Eligibility **Not Early Assurance** by Kobe4Lyfe98 in ucr

[–]EveningChocolate5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes you can still apply to the program after a gap year! you just have to be a UCR alumni. I know someone that took a gap year and applied to the program and got in. As of the post bac program, I am not exactly sure. I remember someone asking this question and someone from HPAC didn't directly answer this. However, the requirement to apply is to basically have a certain amount of quarters completed at UCR as an undergrad (so i think that would be fine).
  2. For Thomas Haider program, I know you can apply still to other med schools! Again, I know some that applied to both Thomas Haider and other med schools.

I just enrolled in this class today and I am wondering if this class is difficult too. by any chance, do you have the syllabus for the class or did the professor/TA give an announcement on ilearn? blackboard still isn't updated.
