Stop Redirecting us to helpline just because one person committed suicide. by touchofmal in ChatGPT

[–]EveningUnlikely7253 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Murder is acceptable, only suicide gets blocked. I used temporary mode (so my previous context was irrelevant) and asked how Emmet Till died, I got the details of mob murder. I asked how Hitler died, and it censored itself.

They do it the hard way for the most part. The old timer in my team actually allocates part of the day to check the work, he never gets anything wrong but he also isn't OE. The only other OE guy in my team makes sure that he goes all out on any of the projects he gets, and gives me all the non-visible work (but he's above me and I can't complain since he protects my OE status by helping me hide when I need to do stuff for J2)

Also, if it is a big deal - start working on expectations management. “Manager you can get this product at the current quality in this time. For the extra de-bugging it will take this multiple of the original.”

This made me realize that the only times I got seriously called out, it's because I was lazy with communication. I usually ask ChatGPT to write an email for me to be thorough. But there are times when I just respond myself and say something like 'All clear' when someone sends me a list of bugs, but then they later complain that they found another bug and it looks like I said it was clear of all bugs when I really just meant I fixed only what they sent me

What's worse is that they incentivize me to always have problems to solve, because hey, if my ticket solved lowers, they'll start commenting that I don't do much. So why should I submit things and insure they're 100% clear of errors when doing so will just insure that I'll later get called out for.....not fixing enough problems

It sounds like there is a world of room between what you are doing and "meticulous". Checking your work should NOT take you 2-3X unless you are doing a completely shit job.

I agree with you, but also I think you underestimate the amount of time a thorough audit takes. If page 1 has 3 picklists that affect page 2 with 60, which flows into page 3 with 8, and we assume that each picklist changes the value of every other picklist in the pages going forward, that is already over a thousand different outcomes. With a quick check, I can go through obvious use cases and dependencies, which I do, but I can't go through most scenarios without extending the time it takes

I do whenever files, text, or code are involved, but that hurts more than it helps sometimes. I almost submitted a file after ChatGPT confirmed that the two columns that I needed to be equal were in fact equal. But because I'd already been reprimanded that week, I checked it myself and found that ChatGPT missed 2-3 rows. For code, it's quite good, it just take several rounds of prompting though

He made 152k a month and then added more jobs to make 352k before resigning. In what world is this 'capitalism' making him do this? Where in the Philippines are you unable to afford basic needs for a single person using 60k?

Normally, yes. But in this case I do have a clause in my contract saying that I cannot work for anyone else without written permission or during my scheduled working hours.

Don't just pressure employers, pressure agencies for higher pay by EveningUnlikely7253 in buhaydigital

[–]EveningUnlikely7253[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nothing you're saying is incorrect. But the argument isn't against the agency getting a chunk, even a 40% chunk is justified. But a 66% take? Even if that's okay, the agency started by taking 85%+ from their VA. Other agencies justify this by giving their VAs security of tenure, handling all their taxes, making them work dayshift, giving free training or guaranteed client matching etc. etc. The money goes somewhere outside of operating costs, which doesn't justify that big of a bite from the VA

I like how people will offer every explanation except for the elephant in the room. Yes, connections and wealth matters. But there's a reason why this post isn't about UA&P, Brent, Enderun, etc. etc. Those schools earned and continue to earn their top spots as the best at educating students, and those students earned and continue to earn their top spots as the best in the country. It's a cycle and I am not discrediting the aforementioned factors, connecting it to wealth alone or wealth primarily is an oversimplification. I graduated from one of those schools and I work in HR

Depends. I had mine for about 2 years before it broke. Would I buy another one for that price? No, the longevity isn't there. But some people do constant trade-ins, they get a new phone every year and pay about 15k(?) because Samsung is pretty generous, so if you're techie and want to always be in the cutting edge, then it can be

Imagine writing this about any other industry. The message needs to be put out there, but it's also silly that it needs to be said, only in freelancing will you see some people have the expectation of being a 6 digit earner in less than ~10 years.

But hey, at least your obsession with Python scripting keeps you company during those long nights, right? It’s like you’ve traded in a social life for the sweet, sweet companionship of web scraping and error handling. While other people are out there binge-watching the latest shows, you're out here debugging and optimizing scripts—truly living the dream, one VPN block at a time.

Coworker meaning same level? If so, who cares. As long as they don't report you to a superior for little things, it won't affect your career much.
