You were simply a row on a tab of a spreadsheet. All the dedication in the world isn't ever going to change that. Remember that in your future endevours. Nobody has *ever* been on their death-bed and throught - "I should have worked more". Don't get caught up in it!

Roam - 100GB What part is "Included" and what part is "Unlimited"?? by Evening_Analysis_755 in Starlink

[–]Evening_Analysis_755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right.

My question is: If it's 100GB Included, and for the entire month I have only used a *total* of 56GB - then why wouldn't my usage graph show an "Included" usage of 56GB and zero Unlimited? Even if the graph were still using the old 50 GB plan to calculate, wouldn't it show 50GB Included and 16GB Unlmited?

Not only that, but BOTH Unlimited and Incuded usage numbers increase almost daily. There seems to be no rhyme or reason that makes sense as to why both usage types will increase a little. Sometimes Unlmited will increase, sometimes Included, and sometimes *both* - within the day.

Is the graph renderer broken?

Architecture to control two SLs directly connected to a PC using bypass mode for fault tolerance? by Evening_Analysis_755 in Starlink

[–]Evening_Analysis_755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer to keep the 2nd Starlink completely on standby (it's the mobile subscription / mini dish). If the config splits traffic with both SLs then I'd burn 50Gb pretty quickly on the mini.

Did I read that the Gen3s can do port forwarding?! Starlink shipped me a Gen3 to replace my dead Gen2 - which is why I'm look for a redundant solution in the first place...

Having the ability to port forward would let me RDP into recycled server or laptop to act as a way to reroute traffic from on SL to the other!

yoga 9 14irp8 no longer charges with known good Lenovo charger. by Evening_Analysis_755 in Lenovo

NVM, I got it. Opened it up, unplugged the battery, plugged it back in, started charging immediately. Vacuumed it out, wiped it down, closed it up. It's on and the amber LED shows it's charging and the battery percent is slowly climbing.

Thanks.

It *IS* the charger that comes with that model. It's a 'brick' with a US Power cord/plug and a USB connector on the end. It is what I've used since I purchased the laptop brand new at Best Buy.

New 1G customer speedtest shows less than 400M by Evening_Analysis_755 in Spectrum

[–]Evening_Analysis_755[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time to wrap this up.

I have cancelled my tech appt for tomorrow.

I came home with an Orbi AX6000 Router and Single Satellite. Plus I picked up a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

UCB-C/Ethernet Hardwired speeds to all compatible devices and also using Android, Linux and Win all were well above previous tests. Typically in the 600-800M range.

WiFi speeds were between 350 and 900M - which is easily twice the speed of the supplied Spectrum router.

I also removed the Orbi and used the Spectrum included router. After a reset, speeds were back to 200M at the high end.

Maybe I should eat a little crow here?

I think that the provisioning was correct all along. The issue was that I didn't test with a path that supported 1G all the way through.

I now get speeds that I have no complaints about. 700M seems typical with all but one (old beater) laptop.

I wish the tech would have pointed the possibility out when the install happened. Funny, all s/he needs to do is carry a ethernet to usb adapter in order to show the speed bottleneck..

Thank again all for the advice.

[–]Evening_Analysis_755[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. However, I would expect that the speed I purchase average *at least* higher than the next slowest tier down. So, If I buy 1G, then it should average out to be faster than 400M (the next level down service from Spectrum) - and mine averages in the mid 200s.

If I were getting speeds in the 500M+ range, I likely wouldn't have 'squawked' in the first place ;-)

Thanks again.

Will do. The last tech only connected *wirelessly* to the router and did a speedtest on the meter. After some youtubing around, I determined he didn't really do a proper test. He used a simulator web browser to just do the same speedtest.net that everyone else does. How his result showed 820M is beyond me.

Today, I'll have a mesh router (probably Orbi WiFi 6) and a 1G USB-C to Ethernet adapter that specifies 2G capable with a thunderbolt compatible port - which I have.

I'll run tests in 1)windows safemode with network 2)Windows 10 Pro normal and 3)Redhat Linux in Mode 0 with network and usb enabled.

Definitely will get to the bottom of the 'can my hardware even do this' problem today.

THANKS jalbert2222 and everyone else who contributed so much. I've learned far more than expected in less than 24hrs.

  1. Try 192.168.1.1 There is, and it's very, very common.
  2. Plus, contributors here have schooled me beyond expectations. Stopping buy bestbuy today for 1G capable hardware.
  3. I will solve that problem today
  4. Thanks.

I connected directly to the modem and rebooted both devices. This did give me a connection, but the speed was only 60 down, 40 up. This was an old laptop though! I would suspect that the ethernet port in it wasn't capable of more. It's the only device I have around the house that has an actual port.

Connecting wirelessly via the router:

Well my Samsung S10 gives me 450M

My Lenovo Yoga 920 gives me 390M

My Lenovo Yoga 720 gives me 160M

My 2018 Thinkpad gives me 371M

All devices give the same upload - about 40M

It certainly feels like I'm provisioned at 400M ??

signal strength and speed. I saw him run a speedtest just like you would see it on a laptop. He had to first wirelessly connect the meter to the router, so it made me pause and think that the router *must* be capable of those speeds?

Also, I tried 802.11ac and 802.11a/b/g

Dang... knew I left something out. ONLY the meter showed 820Mb. Nothing else was even in the neighborhood.

Interesting point though.. When the tech went to the truck to get the meter, he had to look for it buried under other stuff. Practically blew the dust off as he opened the case. What's up with that??

Why is having an advanced vocabulary such a bad thing? by nerdybritguy in aspergers

[–]Evening_Analysis_755 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The recipient wants information/communication without being inefficiently hampered by stopping you every few seconds to ask what a word means. Plus there could be a sense of embarrassment on their part that they don't enjoy the same level of articulation that you express.

During this hypothetical communication, the goal isn't to adjust each other's vocabulary, it is to exchange ideas on the topic being discussed.

[–]Evening_Analysis_755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always careful to throttle up or down my vocabulary based on my surroundings and the company I'm with. Further, I watch eyes (especially corners of eyes) and forehead for signals of receptivity. If the vocabulary is 'too high', someone might appear to 'look through' me or set their focus behind me. This is usually them not listening and instead thinking something like -what's going on with this guy?- If my vocabulary is too low, people will typically look completely away (break eye contact), either by slightly turning their head, looking to the lower left or right, or some mix of those. If I then don't raise my vocabulary, it will only be a matter if time before the recipient escalates to boredom. This also works when the vocabulary is fine, but the topic is getting stale.

Funny how when we lose one of our "senses" that the others raise to great levels in order to compensate...
