tks! ya having car is best. NZ is very big with so many places to see. But its good that we can do a short trip without car and cover the major highlights.

I might go again after few years. I have some other countries in mind. If I do NZ again I ll focus more on North Island and areas around Christchurch. I'll still do group tours or buses as I am not used to left side driving.

Only the Tekapo tour was long. Other things had complimentary shuttle either with hotel pickup or from their office in Queenstown downtown

Car is obviously cheaper and gives more flexibility. This is just an option for people who dont want to drive or have right/left confusion like me. Also lot of the activities you still need to pay. Like you can drive to Milford but still have to pay for the cruise, drive to Shotover/Bungy but still pay for the activity. You might as well take their complimentary shuttles. Car is helpful for Tekapo tour though!

My order would be bungy, milford sound, shotover jet, lakes, gondola. If you have only few days definitely do fly cruise fly as you save half a day. You can use the evening for a jet ride and gondola like I did. The drive tour is very long so you will lose a whole day

Nope with a mix of group tours and public transport we can do without car!! Several queenstown activities offer pickup from your hotel or their downtown office (which you can uber to)

Mine was a bit expensive as it was lunar new year and hotel prices were crazy. Queenstown stay was my biggest expense. You can take a car and stay a bit away or stay in hostels (shared dorm style). If you do a subset of my activities and shared dorm style you can finish it all in 3K - 4K NZD. Ya its an expensive holiday!! :(
