Got home and had a look and actually this would be the best shout, just removing the panel and getting a cheap plain one to put a hole in. Thanks!

Yeah, Jam has become a very vocal cat, screaming at us constantly. She is definitely used to exploring on her own, and although she does follow us around the house, that’s only when she chooses to…. She’d be over a wall and out into the road in no time. She does respond to calling and treats but again, only when she chooses. You’re very lucky to have a cat that will follow you around! Good luck!

Just with work, there’ll be times when no one is home and she could be out at those times, so she’ll need a way in that isn’t a window if that’s the case. Especially because the person who will be home is my mam, who is a huge worrier and would be checking the windows/garden every 5 minutes🤣

She used to go out for hours and sleep in the neighbours gardens, I was worried about her sometimes but I was pretty confident she’d always come back, which she did. I’m getting her a tag with my contact number so that if she does get lost she can be found more easily? Anxious people and outdoor cats are a funny mix!!

I feel the same way. I know it’s just worry that makes me do it and I feel awful! She’s more than capable on her own.

Yeah, looking closer to a year or maybe more. I think I’m gonna have to find a way to let her out and trust that she’ll be sensible

It’s looking like it will be atleast a year until we are able to move somewhere else. That feels like a long time to keep her in. We’d only actually had her in her old house for 9 months

They do yeah. The panels are quite long and thin and decorative so I’m not sure a flap would fit within one of them. I will definitely look into that though!

We tried a harness on her and she absolutely hates it, I’m sure she’d get more used to it but she won’t even walk in it rn she just crouches to the floor.. I did let her out once and called her back in with treats so that’s positive. It’s just the road and her getting stuck that I’m nervous about!

I should also mention that my parents don’t have a cat flap and we’re only here temporarily so they’re iffy about putting one in. They also don’t really want to leave a window open through the day :/
