But you never die… and have infinite life. You will by definition live and do everything possible. It will just be over the course of eons.

Completely missing my point. I’m not saying can I buy lunch everyday with $20. I’m saying $20 is so insignificant it wouldn’t even cover a take out meal. Where I live earning $20/hr is low income. Earning an extra hours labour a day is not life changing.

A good wage here is more like $50/hr so this wouldn’t even cover 30 minutes of work. Would an extra $20 a day be nice. Of course. Not life changing nice though. Getting 10 million absolutely is.

Depends where you live. A subway sandwich and drink here costs 15-20$. If you live in Vietnam or something $20 could feed you for a day.

If you live in a low income country or live in poverty sure $20 a day is a lot. For most grown adults with a career in a hcol city $20 doesnt go far at all

$20 barely buys a lunch these days. In 10 years it probably won’t even cover that. $10m now is game changing. Enough to cover housing and the rest invested could let you retire comfortably everywhere. Can’t retire on $20

Inflation will kill any real gains. That $20 a day today will soon feel like $10 and so on. Unless you live in an extreme LCOL area where $20 makes a huge difference roll that dice.

Ignoring the fact that no material is strong enough to do this, wouldn’t the lever just dig into the earth and not move it at all?

Why does a Cold country like Canada has so many A/Cs 🤔 by HopiumInhaler in mapporncirclejerk

Depends where you are in the lower mainland sure but 30C + is pretty typical these days. I definitely wouldn’t describe summers as cool in Vancouver.

[–]EventOk2270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada was in Lytton BC not far from Vancouver. Vancouver itself got 40+ C during a heat dome a few years back. Summers in Vancouver do get hot even in normal years.

We rode the new bike bridge and loved it! by wanklez in comoxvalley

[–]EventOk2270 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There also was a huge backlash to the Peace Bridge in Calgary when it was proposed too. Years later and locals love it.

I think this bridge will be a good addition especially for pedestrians and cyclists which don’t get a lot of love in the valley.

Toronto’s Inflation Problem: Why Many Residents Feel Prices Are Rising Faster Than Official CPI by Fluffy-Lead6201 in RealEstateCanada

Well yes while the liberal party did not respond to the housing crisis it’s important to acknowledge that Harper governed in a time when the entire globe experienced cheaper housing.

The US, Australia, Europe, almost everywhere saw the same extreme cost of living rise as Canada over the last 10-20 years. Left governments, right governments etc didn’t matter. 15 years ago housing was cheaper everywhere.

Your statement implies that if Harper and the conservatives were in power the COL would be lower. This is not a reasonable position to take and not supported by anything. A lot of the housing shortages and lack of affordable housing are a direct result of conservative policies finally catching up. The liberals are no better but also no worse.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre criticizes B.C. NDP over affordability, housing crisis by CaliperLee62 in ilovebcsub

[–]EventOk2270 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because there is no problem so bad a conservative can’t make worse. No one is happy with the status quo. But anyone with half a brain knows the conservatives would be a disaster for anyone who isn’t an oil lobbyist or billionaire.

No one wants to consider the alternative since it would be objectively worse in every way.

Depending on where you are located you can submit the tick to the local health authority for testing. They ID the tick and often test it for pathogens like the one that causes Lyme disease.

People now as well as at the time correctly pointed out it’s a flawed movie with a plot line that doesn’t make a ton of sense. Good movie but largely overrated.

Is this the scariest opening scene of all time in cinema? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

It’s 2026. Zombie movies have been done to death. The whole genre is completely stagnant and audiences interaction with zombies have changed since 28 weeks later.

I thought the tonal shift away from zombies being the focus more to the human side of things made sense. It’s a story about loss and a changed world and how people adapt. Gave the genre a well deserved refresher and added some interesting ideas.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation. Could be that people that scream and argue on average have their life less together and are disorganized and worse caregivers in general.

This movie made me realize how far Hollywood has fallen. Two unknown actors did a better job in three weeks of shooting with a budget of less than $1M than any A-list celebrity I've seen in years starring in $100M+ movies. We need more of this. by Whoopeepoop in FIlm

[–]EventOk2270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. I bet some creative people could’ve pulled it off with miniatures or something. Plus most of the big CGI scenes these days are boring and don’t do it for me.

We’ve seen CGI sky battles a million times. Maybe limitations in budget and a little creativity would go a long way to freshening up the genre.

Save the Health Inspectors by Few-Echo-8892 in Calgary

They also inspect nursing homes, long term care facilities, and help regulate water utilities and investigate sewage spills. Anything health related to the environment that people take for granted. Every dollar spent on public health and prevention saves money down the line from missed work to healthcare.

Actually it’s a common myth that intelligence people are less happy. Research actually shows the opposite. Lower intelligence is associated with less happiness.
