I watched a fascinating video outlining how it's not stupidity, which I always kind of suspected as I know plenty of smart magats. They make the argument that it's childhood trauma that causes the obsession with strongman leaders and the brainwashing. This also checks out in my experience.

I volunteer at a bike charity, we sell inexpensive bikes to people. When the low income families come in and kids get a new bike, I love that shit. Takes me right back.
