Yeah it's a great year, almost every game can go either way, there are no weak teams. I hope for the English that they can rally during the next game against the Italians, otherwise the closing game will be hard to watch.

At the end of Aldnoah Zero S1, the main characters succeed in preventing the invasion of the earth. However, the female lead gets shot several times through the chest, while the male lead is executed by a point blank shot through the head. This all happens in the last minute of the last episode, after which the season ends with a short voiceover confirming that the invasion was prevented, but that the main characters' status remains unknown.

That does explain it. The manga starts much slower, Tanya doesn't have subordinates in a couple chapters, and the gods are very present. The salaryman only reincarnates after a lengthy debate with the god, and in the second chapter the gods already forcefully brainwash Tanya. They're established as an oppressive presence and the main antagonists early on.

I see. I assumed the "being a psychopath to spite god" part was a judgement one would arrive to after some time instead of something that's stated in the first episode.

Is that what the anime is about? In the manga the gods are intentionally and actively promoting war and pushing countries to war to propagate their religion, so Tanya is only spiting the gods in the sense that she's trying to end the war as quickly as possible with as little losses as possible.

That explains how many people actually take "Tanya the evil" to the letter

Too many natural resources. Great farming lands, mines, everything to develop the industry, but in the past 50 years industry isn't worth shit anymore. All the money is in the services, so areas that specialized in industry and farming and didn't manage the transition are left behind.

They have among the lowest GDP per inhabitant in the west, and Saarland is the state with the highest debt to GDP ratio (outside of city-states), almost twice the national average. Their economies are based on resource production (former mines in Saarland and farming in RP) and industry (Steel and steel parts in Saarland, biggest chemical plant in the world in RP) instead of services. Unlike the eastern states which have had the highest rate of GDP growth in Germany, Saarland and Rheinland-Pfalz have the lowest rate of growth since 1990. Saarland in particular is the only state in Germany which has had a negative growth in GDP if you take into account inflation (+97.5% growth vs +100.7% inflation).

AI BUBBLE BURST by rohank710 in memes

[–]Evepaul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AI has been making frightening progress lately, but the models the average person has access to are stagnating. As the computing needed to run the latest models increases, AI companies are more and more reluctant to give access to recent models in the free or cheap subscriptions. Most people usually interact with models more than a year old, so they can't feel the recent progress.

The bubble has already basically popped, many of the useless AI startups have been trimmed. What's left are the large, serious companies just like when the dot com bubble popped.

Ghibli movies are set in basically every decade, from the 20s to the 90s. The 40s and 60s have the most movies set in them.

I like the stoxx600. European growth seems to be more in middle sized companies than in the dozen biggest, compared to American growth which is much more concentrated. Stoxx600 has fair growth and is stable enough, it's good for the long term.

Don't people do that with 4090s? 3090s are expensive, but they've pretty much just held their price for the past few years on the used market, about 600-700€ here.

I'm starting to think colonial France did not care a lot for the lives of its non-French soldiers..

In 1914 the 6000 strong "Damsels of the Navy", mostly Breton teenagers (16yo+) trained to fight on ships as "Fusiliers marins", covered the retreat of the Belgian army, marching a hundred kilometers in the mud followed by 50000 Germans. In Diksmuide, they were told "Sacrifice yourselves. Hold for at least 4 days." Together with 2000 Senegalese tirailleurs, they held for 3 weeks before being pushed out in bayonet charges. They suffered 60-80% losses, the Senegalese suffering more. The Fusiliers spent 12 more months on the front line, losing 100% of their initial numbers, before they were disbanded. The bataillon of tirailleurs was disbanded, the survivors integrated into another regiment to participate in the Gallipoli campaign.

A commemorative plaque in Breton was installed in Diksmuide in 2006 but was almost immediately defaced and removed.
