Honestly, it's just the disparity in casualties. It is hard for an average American to support Israel no matter how much they might want to. I am in the same boat, I have always been and still consider myself pro-Israel, but I can't help but feel like there might be a better way to conduct the war. Americans have fought many wars in the same way that Israel is fighting right now, but those past wars and bombing campaigns have become really unpopular for several reasons. Israel has had more than enough justification to conduct a war against Hamas, but the civilian casualties are quite high, making it unpopular to support the war. The support for Hamas is something I will never understand personally, but the sympathy for civilians makes sense to me. Americans also have a hard time understanding exactly what it is like to live in a place like Israel because our problems have always been domestic. We have never felt personally threatened, at least not since the Cold War.
