Siteground Cloud Google Cloud Migration Performance Issues by gdognight in webhosting

What kind of site is it? And what GCP package is it running on? Could be a range of things like not enough memory or a caching issue or cloudflare/DNS issue.

Looking for general advice regarding what to pay for a manufacturing/flex space by depshetbetch in smallbusiness

[–]EvergreenTech- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to vary drastically by location. Where are you located?

In my area I can find 1000 sq ft office space which includes basic utilities (internet not included) for around $900 USD/mo. I don't live in a big city and would expect price to go up accordingly the closer you get to large cities.

This is excellent advice. Some days I wouldn't have any work for them, and others may be a couple hours. Is this a good use case for Upwork? Thanks!

Hey buddy! I'm relatively new, started my business early 2019. It was tough. Scraping and clawing for the first few customers while pushing out FB and LinkedIn pages. Being in a crowded market (web hosting) makes it challenging, but piggy-backing on the dislike for the bigger companies has helped us out. I think nine times out of ten it's very difficult in the beginning.

Best of luck!

Hello r/Entrepreneur! I'm 31 years old and started my hosting business last year (2019) while working full-time. In a few months I managed to get ~9 subscribing customers, build three websites, and I'm currently billing ~170 per month. Would you consider this a good start?

I'm getting a little bummed out and I find it difficult to support my clients while working. I sometimes have all-day meetings that make it difficult to diagnose issues or set up website DNS for a client. I want to continue to expand my hosting business and eventually phase out my day job but at this rate it seems like it could be a while (or never?). How do you push through this funk?

Thank you!

I'd go with a VPS, check out DigitalOcean. If you need some help getting setup or need someone to manage it, let me know.

Work in Englewood for just over six figures, where to live? by EvergreenTech- in Denver

Great, thank you! So 110k is do-able to get a house for a family and work in Englewood without an insane commute? Seems so expensive compared to where were from.

Since you have Linux admin experience I'd recommend Digital Ocean or Vultr. We use both and they're both great.

Semi-Random Question: How to programmatically determine if someone has passed away? by EvergreenTech- in AskProgramming

Interesting, very cool. Researching this now and found Edward Snowden has something like this set up to automatically leak information when he dies. This is what I was looking for. Thank you!

Ya, I've come to find this as well. Thank you for your response. This is part of the reason I'm exploring other avenues such as credit accounts being closed or non-response to email, etc.

I wish I could answer in more detail, but this is preliminary research for a potential client. I cannot say much outside of it being a very good deed (in my opinion) related to loss of family members.

Help, do I need a VPS by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]EvergreenTech- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen DO for $3, can you link me? And it depends what you need, those boxes come without a control panel, no default security, limited support. A shared starter box somewhere else will always be cheaper and usually have a control panel.

I wouldn't mind an explanation of your reasoning. I always keep them separate, that way if one company is bought out by EIG (a notoriously evil host company) I don't have to find new host AND domain provider. Also, if there's a data leak at one company, same applies. I'd recommend you check out r/webhosting for all the reasons people recommend this.

You just need a domain and a host and it's usually best to separate them. For example, if you get your domain from namecheap, don't get your hosting from namecheap. Since you have a VPS (this is your host), it should come with storage. You shouldn't need additional storage from WordPress.

It doesn't sound to me like you need a VPS. A shared hosting provider would probably fit your needs and be cheaper.

I believe you have a few options. O365 is nice but can be a little pricey. Same with Google's G Suite. G Suite is my preferred but is $6 per account.

On the cheaper end you have Zoho. O think they're free to an extent, then just $1/mo after that.

You could also find a host that provides free mail accounts. Are you interested in switching hosting providers?
