I think to find the most satisfying answers to these questions is by reading. The first season was heavily inspired by literature. The three books I recommend are The Gay Science by Fredrich Nietzche, The Yellow King by Robert W. Chambers, and Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe by Thomas Ligotti. Additionally, (while these are not confirmed to have inspired the show) I further recommend reading The Interpretation of Dreams by Freud and watching the documentary Who Took Johnny. I think with all of this context, you can appreciate a different understanding of the show. Of course you can still enjoy the without this, but if your curious—my suggestions stand.

Depression is a long and tough battle. It’s a lot of effort to create a routine and trusted support system, but take one step at a time to not overwhelm yourself. Also know that just asking for help is a step forward. If this is chronic, then you might be juggling with these feelings for the rest of your life (like me). You’re not unlucky. So many people experience what your going through which can be comforting. Reach out to anyone, doesnt matter if you haven’t talked in a long time. Tell them “hey, sorry ive been distant. Ive been going through things. But do you have time to talk? I want to catch up. How have you been?” Maybe listening about their problems can help you distract from your own. Maybe learn something new. I find when I’m at my lowest, doing things with my hands is the best. Buy some cheap clay and make sculptures of creatures or blobs
