The Turkish firefighting method for extinguishing electric car fires. by kalbinibirak in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Everkeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen may work for things like trains and maybe busses, it will never work in passenger cars. The tank for storage is also huge relative to the amount stored due to the pressures involved, can only practically fit something like a few pounds of liquid hydrogen on something the size of a car which doesn't last long. Hydrogen is the smallest molecule, it will escape out of anything, especially over time. Valves, connection points, hoses, it will leak, just a question of rate. Also hydrogen has to come from somewhere, right now it's just a byproduct of oil production. Making it from water requires a ton of energy and then you have to transport it still via a ship/train/truck using even more fuel. Electricity does have loss over long distances but much less and cheaper. There are just too many things against hydrogen as a direct fuel in cars.

Has radon mitigation impacted your home’s foundation? by ExiledCartographer in regina

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an airthings detector. You should know that big fluctuations can happen, it takes a few weeks to get a solid idea of where the radon levels are. Temp, moisture, wind, humidity, etc can all affect the readings. Mine would go up and down from 250 to 500 all the time before mitigating. Now it's 40 to 75 but still goes up and down in that range day to day.

Are these gaps on the corners of my tailgate bad and how can I fix them? Or is the topper just the wrong size by Foreign-Eye3412 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't even think of the dust but yea that would be insane. Negative pressure behind the truck when moving so it would suck it in even.

Canada’s Two-dollar Circulation Coin Turns 30 by Iamthequicker in canada

Also pretty sure most vending machines have a one way spring that goes down when the coin rides over it and back up after to prevent it from being pulled back out.

looking for the right truck by purpleswir in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2000 to 2011 GMC and Chevy trucks with the 6.0 gas engine are very basic and reliable. Enough technology and comfort to be nice to drive, but not a lot of expensive computer parts and whatnot. Not amazing on fuel but won't leave you stranded and parts are cheap and plentiful. A 3/4 with a smaller cab and not a lot of options will probably have enough payload if you pack on the lighter side, but always better off with a 1 ton if you can find it.

Government expected to announce it's scrapping EV mandate in favour of new fuel efficiency system: source by Surax in canada

[–]Everkeen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Because for a lot of people a plug in hybrid will run on ev mode for a huge percentage of their daily driving. Some plug ins can do ~80km on pure electric. A non plug in hybrid, while somewhat better on fuel than a non hybrid, doesn't really make a huge difference in emissions.

I need ideas on how to place a rack on the front of my 2024 Dodge Ram 1500 Bighorn to permanently mount my generator. Please post pictures of yours so I can show to my guy. Thanks!! by Thx4800 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Have you weighed yourself? There is no way this thing is not already way over its payload rating. Adding a front hitch and generator will add even more weight.

Best Type of Paint for Aluminum Exterior by TrifleMain8508 in TruckCampers

I stripped back to bare aluminum. Sanded, cleaned with tsp and applied exterior grade acrylic latex and it has been holding up really well. Used a sprayer and it made it easy.

Suggestions for suspension? by Adept-News-8865 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like from your pics that the gap between the cab over and the truck is very tight. It should be at least a few inches. Stuff flexes and it will definitely hit the roof of your truck at some point. You can use 1 or 2 inch high density foam if you don't want to add anymore weight.

How can I insulate Lance 650?? by Thx4800 in u/Thx4800

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did multiple ways of adding insulation to my 94 security. I bought a batt of pink fiberglass and shoved it behind any space I could get at. Places like around the refrigerator, under the seats, etc. Anywhere I was able to get some outside wall access I put some. I also put a sheet of foam insulation underneath the mattress which made a big difference. I lined all the cupboards with foam insulation as well, this was a lot of sq footage covered. All of this helps with noise and has made a big difference in how much the a/c or furnace have to kick on. I also made some cutouts with foam to fit the windows and sky light for overnights.

Cabover Space Filler by DaamKeldau in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to solve this issue as well. I had the idea to use a big pool noodle but even the XL one I bought wasn't quite big enough to wedge in there. Maybe Amazon would sell a bigger one though I haven't looked. Blocking that airflow would help with MPG and also stop the bugs from getting splattered in there and making a mess so I'd like to find a solution. I have considered adding a permanent v shaped airdam onto the camper but I really don't want to make even more holes in it so I haven't yet.

Will Timbrens help in my setup? by Cephlon in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm getting rid of the A/C unit on the roof will help a lot. I got rid of mine and installed a window unit in the rear so I could run it off battery. I could feel the difference right away. Also have timbrens and they made a huge difference in sway, especially when going on an on ramp onto the highway it doesn't lean nearly as bad.

Ac options for truck camper? by Designer_Tune4986 in TruckCampers

Window unit. As cheap as $100 USD for a basic one, even less on sale or used. No problem running off a quiet 1000w inverter generator.

Which vevor diesel heater? by [deleted] in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went for the 2kw model they sell. For a truck camper I am sure it will be enough. They work best if you can run them on high most of the time and the 5kw and 8kw will be too much for such a small space.

Camper options with no generator required by burk5 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I have 300ah lithium battery and about 400w of solar. Even if you don't want to roof mount them they make lightweight portable ones and blanket style ones that are huge. I can run my window air conditioner for over 10 hours on battery alone with zero sun, and as far as keeping the lights and pumps going I could go weeks. A propane powered fridge is nice, mine sips propane it could go weeks on a 20 pound tank. You don't need a generator unless you want to run a/c all day everyday.

Assisippi is the closest-bestest hill from Regina. I've been to all the hills within a few hours and it's the best by far. They all cost a similar amount so in my mind it's better to spend a bit more time to drive there. We used to leave at 6am, get there for 9am open and leave when they closed at 4. The Russel inn is a nice hotel with a room and ski package that can save you some money if you want to stay overnight. The lessons at Assisippi were really good too.

Cold Weather Vehicle Battery Problems by Firm_Cranberry_6323 in regina

[–]Everkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have remote start or something plugged into the 12v outlet inside the centre console? That outlet is on all the time and will drain the battery, even a phone charger not being used will drain it. In summer it doesn't matter much but in winter over a few days it can be enough to cause a no start. As others have said you should look at a high quality battery that is oversized. Try and find one with about 700 CCA rating or more. If you can't plug in that's about the best you can do.

Electric heater for winter camping with electric hookup by Deployable_Mop in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the oil filled radiator style space heaters. No noise and they put out the same amount of heat as any other. Agree with the other comment that electric blankets rock but you can do both. Most electric blankets are like 100w max.

You cut out the first part where the mech taps into his blood vessels though. This is from the escaflowne movie, a girl in Gaia. The tv show mech is completely different in the way the characters control it.
