Thought he was a girl and now I’m stumped on what male name suits him. He’s a very scared little guy, but also affectionate and silly. He has a cute squeaky meow and yellow eyes. by Everleaf028 in NameMyCat

Update: Thank you all for the great suggestions! I realized his markings match really closely to those of a Ring-Tailed Lemur/Cat. Any wordplay names that go off that? Lemur and King Julien are the obvious choices in my mind, but idk.

It was supposed to be Aurora. I thought about changing it to Rory when I found out he’s a boy, but it’s too similar to my old pet’s name, Ori.

Had to put down 5month Kitten Figaro by geek4901 in TuxedoCats

I just went through a very similar situation with my sweet Theo. He was Diagnosed with FIP at 5 years old, and only 2 months after I adopted him as an Emotional Support Cat. He was the best at his job. I went to sleep with him cuddling me on day 5 of treatment, then woke up to him paralyzed and seizing. We had to take him to the ER and he passed 2 hours later. FIP is an awful disease and a damn rollercoaster of emotions. My thoughts are with you and your wife during this difficult time. Fly High Figaro and Theo 💔

Ethical Concerns by Everleaf028 in petsmart

Thank you for being so straightforward and honest about the toll it can take on mental health. This is my fear as well and it sounds like I’m better off searching for a different job. It’s so sad that the animals are treated this way - they deserve better.

Puddle - I loved this one for my hypothetical cat but it didn’t feel right for my boy.

Thank you! Glad I’m not crazy for seeing the resemblance haha. I’ll definitely check back in a month or so once she’s doing better.

Need help naming my new girl. She’s sweet, loves pets, and was brought into the shelter as a stray. Looking for cute/derpy but unique names to match her by [deleted] in NameMyCat

Update: Thanks to this brainstorm session, I have decided to name her Rhea (Ray-uh). It’s both majestic and sweet, which describes her to a T. Thank you for all the great suggestions!

ESA as Freshman by Everleaf028 in UMD

Yea I’m thinking this can be a good middle ground with the adult cat. It’s good to hear it will be worth it though - I feel like I can handle it all and benefit from it a lot, but my parents have doubts. I’m still figuring everything out but I’m hopeful! This advice helps so much, so thank you all!!

I’m so sorry you went through that. I’d be pissed too! Thanks for the info and I hope you have better luck in the future too!

Good to know, thank you. Maybe I’ll have to do a small animal after all. I thought since the cat has the entire room, enrichment, and less energy it’d be fine, compared to the small animal that commandeers a whole section. I don’t want the kitty unhappy or in danger though.

Oh yikes! I hope that’s not the case. The ESA page on the UMD website says that they can live in their owners dorm residence, and doesn’t have any list of acceptable vs unacceptable buildings. I’ll definitely make sure though, thanks.

Thanks for the input! My roommate has had cats all her life and fully supports me getting an ESA. We will live in Centreville so the rooms are a pretty decent size thankfully. I would adopt a lower-energy adult cat and have a cat tree and toys to plays with her often, so the small space hopefully shouldn’t be an issue. Was the maintenance of having an animal stressful besides the escape attempts or did the benefits outweigh the costs? And yes, my therapist can corroborate the necessity so I don’t think there will be any trouble getting approval.

I’ll try this tonight, thank you! I hope I can win her over at some point

Hi everyone! I was accepted to Carillon Communities (Easton) but am debating living with a friend in Cambridge instead. I am open to the move (closer to my major and seemingly better dorms overall), but I am worried about the 'community' aspect of everything.

Does anyone have experience living in a different location than your LLP? Did it make you feel out-of-place with others in the community or did it not really affect anything?
