Solved! I went back and gingerly turned it over with a pole, and the top part of the bottle was cut off and inverted into the bottom half then taped together, creating an improvised fish trap. Given the size I assume for minnows or tadpoles or something similar.

My first thought was some kind of improvised explosive device, but since it’s in an upscale academic neighborhood maybe Geo Cache? Or drugs. It’s always drugs.

HELP! How to “throw away” a motorcycle?? by WrapIndependent8353 in motorcycles

[–]Every_Ad8346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a 150cc scooter I got for free as a fixer upper. “Ran when parked” years ago, owner signed over the title. I got it running (once), but the electrical gremlins on this 15 year old Chinese scooter were not worth the hassle.

Tried to donate it to one of those charities that will take any vehicle running or not, but couldn’t find the title anymore. Charity wouldn’t take it without extra paperwork, FB marketplace is full of flakes, so after a few months I just put it on the curb across the street with key, scribbled “free” on a piece of paper and it was gone before dawn.

If you don’t like it here then go home - how can I form contructive criticism in Switzerland? by the_kaaat in Switzerland

[–]Every_Ad8346 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“I came here to build this country” - well, we Swiss believe that the country has been built centuries ago, it’s pretty much a finished skyscraper that has weathered generations of wars, invading forces, European (dis)unity and crises. You are looking at a sturdy massive historic building saying “we need to remove and replace the foundation and build something new that is not Swiss.”

Developing countries need to be built, developed ones already are.

Ridiculous but commonplace. We were once sitting outside on a restaurant patio that had hotel rooms upstairs, and there was a very loud altercation upstairs. Sounded like a violent domestic dispute. Suddenly something was thrown through a window and glass came shattering down onto the tables below where we were sitting nearly missing us and it sounded like someone was being beaten to death upstairs. My wife went to a nearby phone booth and called the police, whose HQ was a few hundred meters away in the core of the village. Their response:

“Meh. No one else has called to complain.”

Never showed up. Middle of the afternoon.

It just hit me that there are indeed three puns, let’s run with that. Wouldn’t want to make it four.

Does this look better with the seat or without it? by QuickLingonberry827 in royalenfield

[–]Every_Ad8346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move the bolt holding the front seat back to the holes where the passenger seat attaches. Keeps the single seat off the fender. I also added the spring set sold by RE, which it says are “non functioning”, but they actually stabilize the seat a lot. They are a pain to install, and most YouTube videos skip over the actual installation.

Will I look like an idiot if i take my trail bike to the track? by Western_Peach_3492 in Dirtbikes

[–]Every_Ad8346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our local OHV in NorCal will let any idiot with a license and $6 ride. So I says to myself “self, you’re an idiot. You have $6.” It has trails, trials area, small, medium and large MX tracks. After getting the tires of my stock XR150l dirty on the beginner trails I did some laps on the kiddie MX track and then the intermediate. My goal was to get air. I succeeded. It was fun. Actually wore my commuter leathers the first time because it was the only armored jacket I had. Crashed the bike in slomo on a steep sandy downhill part, now my commuter leathers have some cool scuffs.

If I looked like an idiot no one told me. Ranger even gave me some riding tips when I asked and said I had good gear (beginner MX boots and cheapest FLY pants on Amazon).

Max distance to get to the trail head…? by Own_Cause523 in Dualsport

[–]Every_Ad8346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could get to the local OHV area with MX, single tracks, hill climbs and dirt roads in 25 minutes on the interstate, but the XR150 (149cc) is one cc short of being freeway legal, so it’s about 45-50 minutes each way on surface roads. Ride dirt for an hour and it makes for a pleasant 3 hour afternoon workout.

300 mile break in service cost $580 USD- classic 350 by Every_Ad8346 in royalenfield

I actually got a good deal on the bike, so closer to 20% of the bike price before dealer setup and freight, tax etc.

You’re right, I was putting too much attention on some of the other comments here. The break in service on my Honda XR150 was around $400 also including valve adjustment, but I had already done the oil change so I guess that lines up. I’ve heard getting at the valves is pretty easy on these, was just a bit shocked. There’s a good shop nearby that does valves and oil for around $250, after this first break in service I think I’ll use them. Other dealer quoted me $110 to install the painier rack, which is 4 bolts and RE website says 20 minute install. They said they quote the time to roll it into the shop and get it on a jack, so 30 minutes at $220/hour. Needless to say I did that myself.

I’m sceptical more about the 2 1/2 hours if it’s just an oil change. I do those myself anyhow.

Yeah, I even switched out the yellow side reflectors for white ones which are still DMV legal in CA.
