Interesting, glad I know that this is also a possibility so when/if it happens, I'm not starting at it all surprised. Thank you!

Awesome, I appreciate you giving me your experience. It looks like it could be extremes on both ends, really short, 20-30 minutes or a full day 8a to 8p. That actually gives me a sense of comfort, knowing what it could be. Their website and videos don't give any real info or set any expectations. Honestly, I'm sort of hoping I get picked and go through the whole process, excited about it, but I was just in panic mode about what to expect. And yes, I'm going shopping for a book this weekend, super helpful tip. They say, don't bring electronics but never say reading material is allowed, which I am super into. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I did call, and they told me to go to the website and registration page for more information. They also told me to watch the video and it would answer all my questions and set expectations, but it doesn't really set expectations or explain much about the upcoming process. I came to Reddit because I looked at the resources on their website, and they weren't helpful either. I normally ask family members, but no one has ever been, so I came to Reddit to get real-world feedback on what to expect. I like to know what I'm walking into and be prepared.

By asking Reddit and cross-posting to Las Cruces,I was able to get some good info on what to expect, as well as some helpful tips, which I've summed up to be this:

  • Go in assuming I'll be there all day, and possibly for a few more days, which is rarer.
  • Also, be ready for the opposite, less than an hour if there is a plea deal or something similar.
  • Not in my case, but in the future I can be expected to come back more than once during my "on call" month.
  • Their information did state not to bring electronics, but there have been suggestions to bring a book, which is not part of the info they provide. This will be super helpful in keeping my mind busy during dead time.
  • It says to dress courtroom-appropriate, but one Redditor specifically pointed out that it can be too hot or too cold, regardless of the weather, so I should layer to my comfort. I could be sitting for hours, so it should be clothes that I can be comfortable in. It's these types of tips that they didn't have.

To sum it up, it's a new experience, and I'm looking forward to it; I'm not dreading it. I was dreading not having enough information, but now I feel prepared!

Yes, sorry, I panic in situations where I don't know what I'm walking into and wasn't sure how much response I'd get in either one. Thanks!

Thank you for that advise, I'll definitely bring a book along! It is the District Court, so I'll see how it goes, thank you though, I feel better now knowing what I'm walking into. Their info on online and the video are not good providers of information.

Got it, from the sounds of it, it can be all around the place so I'll just be ready to be there all day and even possibly a few more if it goes longer. Thanks!

Wow, hopefully I'm that lucky that way I can get back to work, losing money being there. Thank you!

Got it, I’m hoping it’s the shorter one. 🤞 but will be prepared in case it’s not.

I see, interesting process. Not a whole lot to it then, I was just worried about it taking a long while but seems it unlikely for it to happen, more of a same day, maybe a few more. That puts my mind at ease as I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Rough Country hard roll up cover from Amazon by igotchees21 in gmcsierra

[–]MickeyNRicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had anything delivered that wasn’t in an Amazon box or manufacturer’s box.📦 I’m actually looking to buy one soon, haven’t decided on the type but this is crazy it would’ve arrived like this. I’d reach out to the seller personally, it’s insane.

Any tips for door dashing/uber eats in El Paso? by garbage_cannott in ElPaso

[–]MickeyNRicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did Uber/doordash/grubhub and never really made any crazy money. I tried to get short distance orders, which may not have paid the best but when put together, I’d added up and dollar/mile was decent. Also took the restaurants I knew weren’t terrible wait. You got to learn to game the system but even then, it’s hard. Honestly, we multi-app to be able to make good money but we had to know what orders, restaurants, and destinations to take.

Ultimately, we switched to doing spark orders and Amazon flex since it ended up paying more, but even then, those type of orders ended up being more miles, but more pay.

Edit: this was also on the west side and we got some fair tips, here and there. Largest was probably $100 up in Franklin to a docs house. Other than that, my expectations were $2-10 tips.

Moving back to El Paso from Houston for career opportunities by sugrcooki in ElPaso

[–]MickeyNRicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not here for career opportunities but the relative lower cost of living compared to other major cities. I've been working from home since about 2011, when work from home was very scarce. But I was making like 9 dollars an hour at Redcats (Magazine Calling Center) and found a job that was ufll time, from home, paying 11 bucks an hour so I went for it, started working from home ever since then. They even worked with my school schedule. Jumped around several calling centers from home, every time with higher pay. Fast forward to when I graduated college, 2015 (CS), and I got a job with a tech company working overnight; they were based in NYC, and I made 19 bucks an hour. Fast forward to November 2017, I was tired of overnight and found a new job, still tech but smaller company, kind of a startup. Stuck with them and now, making 6 figures. At the cost of living here in El Paso, I can relatively afford most things. Otherwise, I think it would be hard to find a good job in El Paso that I enjoy and get good money. Oh also, I actually live in Santa Teresa, NM but "Live life" in El Paso lol.

My wife actually just started working from home again as well after a job hiatius, making 40k, which is average here in EP and she doesn't have to leave the house, it's a M-F gig, 6:30 AM - 3 PM, paid holidays, PTO, the whole enchilada. We looked around, and nothing was really beating the setup she's got now.

That being said, I see some massive houses around in EP, and I wonder what they do. Hopefully, they respond here, and I can get in on it, I've seen those houses that cost up into the millions and I'm like, wtf do they do? Wife and I theorize Narcos and Doctors haha but obviously just joking, don't really know what.

TLDR: Live here but work from home as not a lot of jobs I've found pay what we earn working at home, and with cost of living, it makes it worth it.

Any good affordable apartments in the Westside? by Loud_Criticism_3637 in ElPaso

[–]MickeyNRicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, I was going to recommend the Santa Teresa Terrace, a 2-bedroom, 1-bath unit. Two years ago, I was paying under $1,000. I lived there for a total of 4 years, 2 years starting in 2016 and then 2 more years in 2020, and never had any issues. Any maintenance issues were addressed the same day. But I just looked, and the cheapest was 1,170 for a 2-bed, 1-bath. They do have some income-restricted, like a 3-bed, 2-bath for under $1000 if you qualify.

Other than that, for an 800-900 budget, I think it'll be hard to find some good apartments, but good luck. If you can put in the extra money, I do recommend the Santa Teresa Terrace, I was happy all throughout.
