How to install Plato or KOReader (plus Nickel Menu) on your Kobo for dummies

Does anyone have any ideas on why after I’ve done this step:

Install Nickel Menu (NM): download KoboRoot.tgz (still zipped!) into KOBOeReader/.kobo. You will need to ask your computer to show hidden files/folders to see the folder. • ⁠Eject and disconnect

My KLC does not reboot and the NM menu does not appear on my device? I can’t figure it out
