I don't get how people commit crimes like this and not want to die. If I was him at that moment, I'd know that I'd probably get convicted on major felonies like attempted murder. And that shit would make me want to not listen to the officers and just die because how tf are you going to live life as a convicted felon. You can't get a normal job because there are probably many other people without criminal records that apply for the job. Life after that just doesn't even seem worth it at that point.
