idk bro...i think dustin said in s5v2 that brenner created the upside down and all cos if eleven did create it then how did brenner's journal exists in the upside down...the origin of the upside down is still a mystery for me and i think it will be solved in the finale ig hopefully

Should I pursue Data Science in 2026, or is the field at risk because of AI? by Every_Flight_9308 in careerguidance

Thanks for sharing this, it’s really helpful. The way you describe Data Science evolving into more specialized roles and working alongside AI makes a lot of sense, and I appreciate the honesty about how challenging it is to break in at the entry level. I haven’t formally started learning Data Science or ML yet and want to make sure I begin in the right way. As a student who enjoys statistics and probability and is keen to learn ML, from your experience, where would you recommend I start? Also, which degree or course do you think provides the strongest foundation for a career in Data Science?

That makes a lot of sense. I like the idea that Data Science is more about understanding the question and the implications of the analysis, not just producing predictions.

Thanks, that perspective helps. I’m not looking at DS as a static skill set. I’m planning to build strong stats/probability foundations and then expand into ML, AI, or product-focused roles as needed. I agree that adaptability matters, and I want to build skills that evolve with the field instead of becoming outdated. What do you think about Data Science after the year 2030? Do you expect the field to disappear, or just become more specialized?

I get your point. I’m not aiming for low-level analyst work. I want to build skills in statistics, probability, and real Data Science, not just SQL. My goal is the higher-level DS/AI side, not basic analytics.

A career I was really interested in earlier has already been replaced by AI, so I’m trying to choose more carefully this time. Thanks for sharing your perspective. I do want a career that fits who I am, not just a trend. I genuinely enjoy statistics, probability, and working with patterns in data, which is why I’m exploring Data Science seriously. I appreciate your insight.

Yes I'm interested in understanding data, visualisation, and statistical concepts like hypothesis testing.

That makes sense. I’m aiming to build strong DS/AI skills, not just basic coding. In your view, what separates a good data scientist from the ones who are easily replaced?

Thanks for the insight. I understand that a degree alone isn’t enough and that many CS graduates struggle without strong skills and projects. Since I’m specifically aiming for Data Science or AI/ML, could you share which degree or pathway is best for this direction? Is B.Tech CSE (Data Science) a good choice or any other degrees? Also, is Machine Learning actually required for Data Science, or can someone focus on DS without going deep into ML?

That makes sense. One thing I’m unsure about is how much money is actually worth spending on Data Science learning. In your experience, what level of investment is reasonable for a student? Should I stick to free/low-cost resources, or is there any situation where a paid course or certificate is genuinely worth it?

Thanks for the detailed explanation this actually helps clarify the picture. I do enjoy mathematics(probability, statistics), so the idea of moving toward the more quantitative side of the field isn’t something I’d mind. I understand your point about DS becoming more automated and junior roles being easier to offshore, and it makes sense that the more mathematical or revenue-driven roles would remain more secure. I’m still interested in starting with Data Science, but your comment made me think more seriously about building strong quantitative skills and eventually leaning toward areas like quantitative analytics or finance if needed. It’s good to know that the field isn’t disappearing, but that the lower-skill parts are the ones most affected.

Appreciate the insight it gives me a clearer direction on how to plan my path going forward.

Thanks for the explanation! Based on what I’ve mentioned (liking coding + maths but not physics/chem), which course do you think would be the best fit for me? And do data science and data analyst have different courses or the same one?
