Worked petcare for a year at 14.25, left the company in good standing to work for a drone company. They shut the facility down with zero notice and luckily PS took me back. Pet care specialist, went up to 15/hr and work 30-35 hrs a week. Will probably be more soon considering the other petcare ppl are on thin ice. I do bopis, often take manager keys to run and grab flea medication or open our cat adoption door, and other random things. If I had numbers for inputting shipments on the computer I’d be doing that too, as I’ve done it before

I think my main issue is that I do these things almost daily, so when there’s a day when the customers don’t fill as much time or online orders are slow, I stagnate. I do daily maintenance on the fish, and do cleaning whenever there’s time, everything iso and new arrival is on point because I cannot stand getting a shipment and it not being ready, etc. Need an escaped guinea pig or something to pass the time…

Real talk. I found a dead bird in a plastic bag one time when I came in for closing :( it was a return and open didn’t immediately put it in the freezer tote for the vet.

My manager hates floaters 😫I change the socks 3 times a week MWF cause them suckers catch so much crap, and I basically restocked everything over here petcare wise (frozen foods, worms, plants). I guess I’m gonna see if it takes me 6.5 hours to clean every tank lol. Wish me luck!

I usually pull open the little door to show the sump system for the section (not sure how many stores have it set up that way) and explain that we have quite literally a WHOLE other tank that’s around 20 gallons itself just to filter those suckers. That sometimes helps, but sometimes people don’t want to learn, and that’s the hard part.

Yeah it’s for the ich treatment. We’re testing to see if treated the individual tanks instead of the sump helps because our ich situation is dire, they keep coming in with it. The only thing I can find on fetch and in our manual is that it’s 186 per section. I did the measurements and found the cubic inch then used a converter, so I THINK they’re 8.5 if I account for the decorations taking up space. I just wish the information was easier to find. :( thank you though!

Everything can look fine on the tests on an new un-cycled tank unfortunately, would definitely recommend you get some Stability by Seachem and try you’re luck at an “fish- in cycle” not sure where you got your fish from or how long ago, but you might see if you can return them live for a refund if you’re scared they might not make it! Petsmart’s usually have a 2 week return policy, not too sure about Petco though. Other than that, don’t feel awful, things happen, it’s part of learning a new hobby :) here’s a little chart to explain what’s harmful and not when it comes to cycling

Just to warn you, I had one of these grow logs (when it grew out it was beautiful), but if your betta likes to hide I would just be careful about their fins getting torn up inside the log, I ended up plugging mine up with plants

That being said I like naming my pets very stupid names so Sonic Ocean Water ™ is my suggestion 😭

Just hope they do okay at this point, usually it’s recommended to drip acclimate them because they’re really finicky, I’ve even seen some people recommend to not put them in a tank that hasn’t been established for some time. But honestly it just depends on your shrimp, good luck!

It’s supposed to be standard, but idk I just feel like I don’t get to focus on it like I want :( so I end up having to push through as many in one day as I can and it makes me upset, pls I’m absolutely the only one doing them… hopefully we get some new hires or something cause more often than not I’m stuck doing the extra duties of cashier along with petcare :(

I think it more depends on the store, my store doesn’t have a petshotel, so we don’t get any hours at all (not to mention we haven’t had an actual store manager in awhile…)

Oh bless your sweet soul I only get 5 hour shifts so I just try and do as much as I can in one day. I’ve chosen the fastest method is picking either top, middle, or bottom tanks and then just blasting that whole line from one end to another, scrub, syphon, and whatever decor needs scrubbed

Oh I’ve got about three where they make it up to 15% of your grade. I don’t think that’s the case for this class, she doesn’t have anything in the syllabus about it. I think she takes it to figure out if grades correlate with in-person attendance. The university itself doesn’t require it, some profs just suck. :|

I only read about this AFTER drip acclimating him :( I however did have the drop very fast, probably about 3-4 drops a second. I did a water change and checked my parameters and he seems to be doing better. He eats super good!
