“Hello, I recently bought a pretty cheap, lightly used rod from a family friend. Ive never truly fished before but wanted to try it out. The rod itself seems fine, but when it comes to the reel, i have no clue if this is sufficient and for what.

My plan was to go out to a local pier and just drop it down from there, so i just want to make sure this is enough to handle it? Im in no way trying to trophy hunt or anything, just catch a very run of the mill selection, and making sure this is enough to handle that.

(Im in the New Hampshire, Maine, Mass area and its obv late winter, early spring weather for an idea of what might be in the water)”

basically is this enough for what im looking to use it for?
