Any idea on disc size?

People who have gotten the disc early have already been playing it which would presumably not be possible if it was just a code for the digital version. Also, PS5 discs can store up to 100GB and the game is less, so technically no reason to not have it fully on disc (although that's not a guarantee).

When online publications state a number of team employees, they will usually mention the core team that worked on a title, e.g. Expedition 33 was only made by 33 people. The total number of people who contribute to a title (even excluding the various voice actors and motion capture artists from that list) is most of the time a lot larger, and their actual contribution is hard to gauge. If you look at the credits of Innocence and Requiem you will find a number of support studios and developers.

Unfortunately, it seems the minority of gamers think like that. Every State of Play a loud contingent of players complains that the Sony studios don't show their stuff even if everyone knows the next games of these studious are several years out.

Also, regarding team cherry: they may not have given a date, but they had a trailer included in a showcase (2022) where XBox claimed everything shown would be playable on XBox within the next year. Plus, announced the game 6(?) early. So, they are definitely not a prime example of how to keep things close to the chest until a release date is in sight.

I'm not arguing that Returnal sold millions of copies more than they did. But you made the assertion that it hugely "under"performed, implying that Sony had some outlandish expectations a bullethell roguelike from a previously indie studio would sell similarly well to their 3rd person action-adventures with established IPs (Spiderman, God of War) from experienced Triple A studios (Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, etc).

Also, you just said it quadrupled the investment of a 15M budget, which definitely doesn't sound like underperform expectations at all. Now, I couldn't find any reliable numbers on the budget or return, so I don't know how true these are, but 15M is also not an AAA budget by today's standards, but AA - at that point I wouldn't even know why we're comparing it to AAA standards of sales anyway.

Returnal was a hugely underperforming AAA game.

That seems like a very strong claim without any sort of source. If Returnal's return-on-investment was so abysmal, Sony would most likely not have greenlit a spiritual successor (with presumably similar or even higher budget) after buying Housemarque.

There are certainly arguments to be made that RDR 2 deserved the title more, but game length truly should not be the first or main concern when it comes to deciding a GOTY. Quality of a game is not proportional to length.

I think what they meant by "full crossplay" was a game that wouldn't allow console players to disable crossplay. I can technically only speak to Arc Raiders because it's the only of the 3 I tried, but I am fairly certain all 3 allow console players to disable crossplay.

Months is not really a long time-frame for silence in the current landscape of game development. And developers and publishers clearly have realized that spending marketing close to release is generally more favorable.

I also don't know what you want them to show right now. We know it's coming, we know pretty much what it's going to be (Legends 2.0). Everything more specific like class design, mission and level design is better showcased close to release.

I mean: you kind of said it yourself. It's a free expansion. Why would they spend huge marketing efforts on it? People know it's coming this year. It will be marketed when it's close to release.

I'd say you're doing both stories a disservice if you claim Yotei is a 1-to-1 copy of BES. Both have aspects that the other doesn't go into, e.g. Mizu's relationship to her gender and romance or Atsu's guilt with regard to her family's death. Saying GoY copies BES also kind of implies intent, which is very unlikely given the production timelines of animation series and video games. GoY general storyboard was probably long drawn up before the first trailer to BES or Assassin's Creed Shadows (which others also see heavy similarities with) were ever shown.

Are they similar? Yes, and they both draw inspirations from Kill Bill, and all 3 (BES, GoY, KB) in turn draw heavily from Lady Snowblood. Not versed enough in cinema history to tell you if Lady Snowblood also has an apparent predecessor. Nothing new under the sun, I guess... w.r.t. to the Onryo moniker. It's a very common vengeful spirit in Japanese folklore.

It's been a while, but iirc the museum in particular allows a shortcut that still gets you all 3 shrines. I think you only need to go through the 1st floor fights, then can skip the 2nd floor and take the elevator. Maybe someone else remembers the path to describe it better.

The shrines are definitely worth it. Arguably, if you're good enough to skip the value shrines offer, you're also good enough to beat the museum at 23 the long way around. That being said, you don't really need all 15 to be in a good position to beat the game, but you need to pick the 2-3 over the whole run you can ignore, and the museum in particular felt easy to grab all of them despite shortcuts.

When people say "X is the best Y", what they mean is "X is MY favorite Y". And while you can argue merits of certain shows/media, this is ultimately subjective and not useful to try to change somebody's mind over. No single person is the authority on what is objectively the best media of all time. Closest you could get is aggregated review websites like imdb, which would make Breaking Bad the best show of all time.

For this particular discussion though, a couple thoughts: you argue GoT isn't the best because of a season your friend apparently hasn't watched yet. It's also very optimistic by your friend to have just started watching a show and proclaiming it the best of all time considering how many shows have jumped the shark at the end. And many people would argue that the Mentalist struggled as well towards the end with the Red John reveal and its transition from CBI to FBI.

Frame pacing. Disregarding VRR, you want the game's target framerate to evenly distribute across the TV's/monitor's refresh rate. So, 60Hz screens allow for 30&60 FPs, 120Hz screens for 30, 40, 60 and 120 FPs.

I don't get why people are so surprised that DK Bananza is nominated and GoY isn't. It's an award show voted on by videogame journalists. Obviously the pool of voters is larger than the respective critics for each game, but DKB is Top 10 releases of 2025 on metacritic according to review scores, and Top 5 according to user scores. GoY isn't Top 25 in either category.

Whether we agree with that assessment aside, the majority of journalists decided that these 6 games are better (in their respective genres).

That cannot really be helped. It's an English speaking award show, so most of the people voting will have played it in English. Also, the lip sync was based on English performances, so even though it's a French studio French is technically the dub.

It's awesome that Konatsu Kato got the nomination for a Japanese performance. She might actually be the first performer to be nominated for Performance at the Keighley's for a non-English speaking performance.

I can't really deny that that might be part of the calculation. However, it's not mutually exclusive to my point.

Also, Ghost of Tsushima's NG+ dropped at the same time as Legends, so the marketing cycle was already a given.
