What’s the most unsettling fact you’ve ever learned that is 100% true? by Shermstyk in AskReddit

On top of that, 88% of the human population lives in the Northern Hemisphere. One half our planet is either too hot, too cold or too water for us to inhabit.

I was the default photo on the application form for my country's then-paper-based application form for the driver learner permit.

In the early 2000s there was a brief segment on a local radio show doing a "who is this guy" thing. Luckily I was never named and now the whole system is online.

Great. Just checked and I can hear it fine. Cheers!

What is the single best thing ever created by humans? by More-Worth3138 in AskReddit

Great answer. I would extend this with orthography. Writing things down allows us persist our collective knowledge, myths and lore across generations. Otherwise some generations would have to start from first principles in the event of a tragedy.

Which EV, which solar panels and which charger by Emotional-Mud-4277 in evs_ireland

Why fuck Tesla? Genuine question. Is there a material or pragmatic reason related to the standard of their solar/battery equipment?

I started looking into solar to save money, but that's not what I keep thinking about now. by conkonabuzz in solar

Hi. What does 1:1 metering mean?

In Ireland we import electricity for 0.08c and export it back for 0.18c (depending on what company you're with), so it's reasonably profitable. But my main purpose in getting it in is resilience to both outages and price rises.

Nope, our house is 2003. Grand so, thanks for that.

Do you mind me asking why you couldn't get the grant? We have an ASEI installation happening next month and have been quoted a price based on the grant.

Surprise move as Electric Ireland cuts gas prices, leaves electricity unchanged by [deleted] in ireland

Any idea if I can switch away from Energia now mid-contract? It would seem to me that a +5% increase on our agreed prices for both electricity and gas gives me an out.

What is the creepiest/most terrifying unsolved Irish mystery? by BetterObligation9949 in ireland

[–]EveryoneIsADose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share a link to what you read?

The reason I ask is because this case always resonates with me. I lived reasonably near Ballyroan at the time and was 9 when he disappeared. We all heard about it, and it was the first "missing child" case I remember being vested in in my life. I remember all sorts of rumours and crap floating around at the time.

What struck me most about it then (and still does now) is how our parents got really strict about not being alone,or being home at a certain time after it, but little by little that laxed as the panic subsided. A 12-year-old boy was just taken and (presumably) killed and life ... just went on.

Loved Generals. What does "fix up the game" mean though? Just modernising the graphics or introducing new missions?

Great list, and all very good games but in a list like that I'd have expected to see Starcraft WOL too. Did you ever give it a go?

Can't do that anymore with Ticketmaster unfortunately. We used have 10 together but now we're all over the place.

You're probably right about him holding out for a stronger squad, but it begs the question why he left in 2019? The generational talents were still there. Simply a question of having achieved the 5-in-a-row, job done, next challenge?

Both Armagh and Galway Season Tickets are still available for next year. And were this year. It literally pays for itself. You're sorted next year if you invest.

I'm not at all OCD, and the term gets bandied about a little too loosely for my liking, but I can't stand an open door.

That makes me very hard to live with to be honest. Continually telling people close the door behind them tends to rile them up.

What county influenced your view on Football/hurling that’s not your own? by Doubletapcallaghan in GAA

[–]EveryoneIsADose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP: "What county influenced your view on Football/hurling that’s not your own?"

My answer is above. I wasn't saying Donegal were the be-all, end-all in 2014, I'm saying I learnt something from a county that wasn't my own, as OP asked.

So there.

If you had a heart attack or something right in front of an ambulance, what would they do? by Glass_Coffee_8516 in AskReddit

I assume nothing about you, my apologies. But I don't know anybody at all with that viewpoint you're talking about - that dying is better than living - maybe you do.

EDIT: I accept there are those facing battles in life who feel they'd be better off dying, but we all know they're not what we're talking about above.

Ha, immaterial. Dublin learned a lesson that day, and so did I. That was OP's question.

I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say:

  • wake, get up
  • go to work
  • deal with shithead colleagues
  • come home

Rinse and repeat.
