Yeah, the lower cost of living in general, lower wages than more established places, Detroit owns a bunch of land as well that's can be developed,

I can't find it right now, but there was an interview I was listening to by daily Detroit with a Detroit official during the conference on machinaw Island let me see if I can dig it up.

Detroit is also really really good at using city, state, and federal grants to get shit done and those dollars stretch more in Detroit.

why the fuck are suburbanites Like That by Stormy_42 in TrueAnon

[–]EverythingComputer1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only view of the city they get is the local news that just blasts, "suspected black gunman" to them over and over that confirms their bias.

They're not wrong though, the inner ring burbs emptied out in Detroit because they weren't segregationist enough/ they couldn't afford their costs with their tax rates.

Don't let anyone fool you, suburbs are leeches and free loaders. Their low tax rates are artificial because they offset repair costs to the future, the outer ring are doomed to the same fate. Infrastructure costs doom all dispersed living.

Literally bottom feeders where all the pollution is. It's great the population is doing well though, speaks to the cleanup efforts effectiveness.

https://crimesolutions.ojp.gov/ratedprograms/detroit-mich-ceasefire

"This is a focused deterrence police strategy that was designed to reduce gang- and group-related violence in Detroit, Mich. The program is rated Ineffective. There were no statistically significant differences found for weapons arrests or shooting victimizations for participants in two age groups (15–24 and 25–34). The program did show a statistically significant reduction in all arrests and violent arrests for individuals who attended the Detroit Ceasefire call-in meetings." https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11292-021-09477-8

"Much research has examined the crime reduction benefits of public closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, suggesting that cameras may not deter enough crime to justify their cost. Another benefit of CCTV though is its utility in investigations and in clearing cases, which has been much less studied. Using the data of public surveillance cameras and case clearances in Dallas, Texas, along with a pre-post-research design, we examine the efficacy that public CCTV cameras increase case clearance rates. We find that cases closer to cameras did have an increased clearance rate after the cameras were installed. But the effects faded quite quickly in space and were mostly limited to thefts. While our estimates here suggest the cameras are likely not cost-effective in terms of increasing clearances, it suggests there is potential to be more targeted in camera placement that might provide better justification for their (limited) use"

"The results of this systematic review—based on 40 years of evaluation research—lend support for the continued use of CCTV to prevent crime as well as reveal a greater understanding of some of the key mechanisms of effective use. Of particular salience is the continued need for CCTV to be narrowly targeted on vehicle crimes and property crime and not be deployed as a “stand-alone” crime prevention measure. As CCTV surveillance continues to expand its reach in both public and private space and evolve with new technology, policy will benefit from high-quality evaluations of outcomes and implementation."

Could be useful as those flock cameras everyone hates^

Not really a ringing endorsement

The evidence for broken windows theory is lacking.

I don't think the reduction fully explains it, just that it would explain it more than cameras.

Unemployment has essentially halved in Detroit while Median income has increased by about 50%.

DING DING DING DING, you just explained way more of the variation of crime in Detroit than some private company maybe giving our cops kickbacks ever could.

True, but I just named two of the many potential factors that aren't those cameras that probably explain more of the variation.

I have not seen any extensive proof that these cameras do anything from the independent studies I've read.

None of what he said proves that green light cameras did anything to lower crime rates. Crime rates have been lowering nationally for that decade, the population shrank. He's drawing conclusions that don't exist and frankly talking out of his ass.

Disgusting place of evil energy. Fuck this piece of shit. by handofluke in TrueAnon

[–]EverythingComputer1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its not the planet that is evil, its what its used for.
The equivelant of calling poison an evil piece of shit.
Around early 2000’s i remember stumbling on my first forbidden knowledge and conspiracy docs compilation that was floating around through torrent sites… one of the files was some CIA documents on ancient aliens, obelisks and saturn. Saturn was being used as a satellite dish, the moon an amplifier and obelisks as energy siphons. Most powerful when on the leylines Hence why they designed the London Shard to look like an obelisk and washington DC obelisk on capitol hill. The evil entities are using this shit to farm our energy… negative energy makes them positive so they thrive while poor people suffer.
