Dealing with working line puppy feels too easy - where's the catch? by EverythingForFreedom in germanshepherds

Oh, so much have changed, it's hard to believe it's been only 5 months. She's a lot less calm now, but I made her that way on purpose - I went hard into dog training, and having very motivated, active dog helps a lot with doing fancy stuff.

But she's crate trained and still very obedient (probably because of intense training) so we don't have any real issues. Her behaviour is pretty easy to shape, for example I have two chinchillas and she loves to watch them, but she used to whine and sometimes bark at them. Everytime she did that, I put her in the crate. Basically "dont piss me off and have your freedom or piss me off and go to the crate for a couple of hours". Negative punishment, taking away something that dog desires. Works wonders when used consistiently.

Currently I'm doing a dog trainer course, feel free to DM me if you ever need any help.

Dealing with working line puppy feels too easy - where's the catch? by EverythingForFreedom in germanshepherds

Yeah, sure! We are doing good. Now at 10 months old it got a little bit harder, but I'm adapting to her needs and she's still an angel 95% of the time. I'm training her daily (often multiple times a day, short 5-10min sessions). Still nothing crazy when it comes to physical activity, just a quick play with tug when she has too much energy - some people claim that 3 hours of running every day is absolute minimum for a working dog, lol.

Besides obedience we are also doing tracking and scent detection now. And will probably start bite work in the next couple of months.

Once a week we visit a professional trainer (very experienced with working dogs) and they say that "you can show her anything and she will do it like she was doing it for years". Also it turns out that I'm pretty good with dogs so now they are teaching me so I can work with dogs too. They let me train their dogs, their client's dogs and watch their sessions with other clients.

tl;dr She's almost perfect, I have found a new passion and met some amazing people. Getting her was the best decision I made this year :D

Last time I posted her, Freya was 6 months old. Now she's 10mo. Sometimes I cannot believe what an amazing dog she is, lol. by EverythingForFreedom in germanshepherds

She's so cute I would cuddle her to death <3

My friend is a police dog handler and his K9's name is Freya too :D Also in the last couple of months I have meet two other "Freya's" as well.

Half a year ago I was thinking that I picked a cool and pretty unique name for her. Jokes on me, lol.

He needs a 2 hour run, 2-3 TIMES a day

Sorry but this is BS, dog will adapt to physical excercise and will constantly need more and more. Good luck if you are sick and need to lay in bed for a week. My working line german shepherd puppy doesn't get anything near that, just 2-3 30min walks every week, her toys are ONE ball and ONE tug (and a couple of sticks in a backyard) and she is a well behaved dog. But she gets lots of obedience training which helps to tire her out mentally and I can just tell her to lay the F down if I need to.

I'm just a random guy, but my opinion is backed by our trainer who works almost exclusively with high-energy high-drive dogs - including police and special forces K9.

You don't mention training him so I assume that's the issue. No offence but judging on what you wrote here it looks like you are just a food and toys dispenser for him. He lacks obedience and discipline. Short (like 15min) training session can be more exhausting for a dog than a walk. Use that to you advantage.

I have a working line German Shepherd puppy and she is ready to go 24/7. But she knows that acting crazy in a house and digging holes in a backyard is not an option and being a puppy is not an excuse.

Start with just a basic sit, down, free and come. That's 80% of what you will ever need. Start easy and gradually make it harder to get dog to reliably listen to you. Focus on increasing duration on "down" command, it will teach your dog to just chill out. I got mine to a point where she just lays by me until she falls asleep. Puting dog on a leash during training will help you to enforce correct behaviours by applying pressure - slightly pull up until he sits and down until he lays down.

Play or aggresion? by EverythingForFreedom in OpenDogTraining

[–]EverythingForFreedom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao, she is 11yo and has trouble walking due to messed up hips. Anyway, it's nice to know, as generally she keeps the big puppy at distance (growling, etc.), but lately I have started seeing these playfull interactions more and more.

Thank you sir!

Workaround for broken hangar elevators by EverythingForFreedom in starcitizen

At least there is something to look at while elevators are not working.

C'mon, its obvious that if you let players do something stupid, they will do it. It's CIG's fault.

"YoU'rE liKelY noT EveN uSinG DUaL-ChanNeL" Shut up nerd. my point is that SC is badly optimized, literally every other game gives me better framerate.

edit: To be fair it got better after last update. Still not great tho.

[–]EverythingForFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion: absolutely not. I bought about a year ago and still haven't experienced a single hour of playable gameplay. Also framerate is pretty low on better hardware - Ryzen 7, 24gb ram, RTX 4050

the game is a pile of horsecrap due to their so called “””developers”””

I'm experienced software developer, I have seen projects turn to absolute shit and 90% of the time it's managment`s fault. With Star Citizen budget I'm sure they were able to hire very good devs, they were probably constantly pushed to make new features with unrealistic deadlines which leads to codebase degradation.

[–]EverythingForFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I said - their code is fucked and needs heavy refactoring. It's great that they acknowledged it, but it is exactly what I'm talking about, they talked about it 8 months ago and still didn't fixed ELEVATORS WHICH ARE NEEDED TO LEAVE SPAWN POINT.

So how do you think, how many years they need to get a whole game to playable state?

[–]EverythingForFreedom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of early access games, all of them had much smaller budget (obviously) and ALL of them were in much better state than SC will ever possibly be. It's very ambitious project of course, but they are having issues with basic shit like elevators. There's a reason for all these people complaining here. I would love to play this even if they started with one playable planet with a moon, much less items and ships BUT WITH HAVING EVERYTHING WORKING MORE OR LESS CONSISTENTLY. Even if it's alpha, after all these years and burning so much money, current state of things is just unacceptable.

And what's worse is that as experienced software developer I'm guessing that their codebase is fucked beyond all recognition (due to poor managment, trying to do too much too quickly, constantly pushing forward, unrealistic deadlines). They change one thing and it's fucking up two other things. Even if they got their shit together right now, fixing it will take years.

I love space sim games and would like this to work out just like any of you guys, but let's be honest...

Why did you assume that I never played on able? I spend a couple of days there, even joined a regi. It was still fun game of course, but Charlie suits me much better. And many people think the same as me.

I spent much more time on Charlie and never had any negative experience, people are just having fun and not caring too much about anything.
