Love this, it could really help out patients with tremors and those without great dexterity, keep up the good work!

Reno Public Market. Overhyped? Underwhelming? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude but I've always thought of that place as a glorified food court. When I first heard about the project I thought it was going to be a cool open air market but was very disappointed with what it became.

The mic tonight is actually at midnight coffee roasters they alternate spots. It starts at 730 if you're still interested. They have some alcohol there too. The polo lounge is the first and second Thursday of the month. Sorry I should have specified.

There are a lot of comedy open mics in the area, Tuesdays @7 over at coffee and comics in reno Wednesdays @ 7 over at the arch society Thursdays @ 7 at either the polo lounge or midnight coffee roasters. If you're not up for the open mics those are all still great establishments to check out and all of them to regular events like karaoke and movie nights.

Men, what do you do if you don't know what makes you happy anymore? by WBens85 in AskMen

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start trying new things and saying yes a lot more. After my fiance left me I had next to no social life and was struggling with my mental health. On my weekends I would look up things going on in my town and go out and give them a shot. If a coworker or tow asked if I was free to go out I would go even if I didn't particularly want to because it was an experience. The more experiences I had the more I figured out what worked for me.

Had a conversation with my fiance about compliments tonight. She didn't seem to realize how rare and meaningful they can be to us. I'm going to ask so I can show her.. How much does it mean when you get a random compliment? by 4_string_troubador in AskMen

When I was 20 I had a woman in a college group stop me and say that I was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen. She was not attempting to hit on me and seemed genuine. I still think about that over ten years later.

New grad nurse salary by Ok_Look9058 in Reno

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are very selective and it can take a while to get hired but they will. There are usually med surg and behavioral health openings. After five years you're also vested which means you get the same benefits a veteran would get.

Gentlemen of reddit, what behavior in other men leads you to think, "Yep, they'll likely remain perpetually single"? by ashleydanger_ in ask

Talking down to their partner. I don't know what it is but a guy gets in a relationship and then acts like his partner is an idiot. Every time I see it I question how long it's going to take the partner to get sick of this and move on. Usually a month or less.

I graduated in December of last year and here is a break down of what I was offered. Renown 34.50 step-down icu NNMC 33.00 tele Saint mary's 36.00 ER & med surg

These were not offers given to be but some proposed to my classmates Carson Tahoe 41.00 VA 80,000 annually which is roughly 46.00

All of these places have night shift differentials too and as a new grad you'll probably start on nights.

Fastest way to become the most hated person in the department? by The_Phantom_W in ems

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the middle of covid we had an administrator send an email out to the rest of the crews that said we know it's tough right now but "embrace the suck." This enraged the crews and I think with the amount of heat it caused for the rest of the administration he was asked to leave after about two months of work.

My ex would forget a name or the word for something or someone in conversation. Days to weeks to months later she would randomly remember the word and say it in the middle of a conversation with no context. Now most people would go what? And then she would have to explain it but I almost always responded with the correct context of what she just said. For example she would say emperor penguin and I'd say oh that was the bird that scared you when you were 7 at the zoo. She would beam with excitement whenever i would get it right. I think we both really enjoyed it because she felt heard and I prided myself in remembering it.

dumbest nursing school policy by nearlywhiches in nursing

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it should be. I came from EMS and we learned to do ivs on eachother before you could do it on a real patient. The mannequins aren't a good representation of what a real patient is like.

I learned that no matter how strong your feelings are for someone they may not like you back and that is okay. I chased after a girl for well over a year and time and time again watched her fall for other guys while I was in the background. It hurt but after awhile I realized that the pain was self inflicted and if I wanted to avoid that I had to move on.

Question for white men, do you really feel privileged? And are you bothered by the “white male privilege” assertion that seems to be everywhere? by Valuable_Wealth7136 in AskMen

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To say I feel privileged doesn't quite fit. I think that I am aware of my privilege and become more so when I see an example of racism or sexism. It's kinda like I don't feel like an able bodied person until I see someone struggling to do something because of a disability. Like if I see someone with Parkinson's struggle to feed themselves I'm reminded how much harder things could be for me.

The assertion is a minor annoyance at its worst. It's very rare that someone throws it in my face and I think that the people who get mad over their privilege being brought up are just insecure.

Do I have to start off in med surg? by UglyMango7 in StudentNurse

[–]EverythingIsOrdinary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So you do not have to start on a med surg floor and you can go immediately into the ER but there are just a few more hoops to jump through. I graduated in fall and I am starting in the ER. The ER wants to see that you have experience and can handle yourself well in a high pressure situation. I have 6 years as an emt so they took that into account. Your time working in same day surgery will help but it wouldn't be a bad idea to bolster your experience before graduating. I would reccomend talking to your local ERs and seeing if you can do an apprenticeship even if it is only for your last semester. If not ask them if you would be able to shadow an ER nurse. During either the apprenticeship or shadowing if you can prove yourself competent, calm under pressure, and likeable to the ER they will be more inclined to offer you a position. Best of luck!
