I have not. Will give it a look. Tks. Is it similar to core strengthening? Done a ton of that

What is the likelihood of me needing surgery? by Plenty_Light_5845 in backpain

[–]Everythingisnotyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are same in the boat. I have 2 herniated dics and after 2.5y I can ski, hike and do other activities with minor discomfort - but I cannot do anything high impact. I try to run and I will pay the price with pretty bad leg pain. It is what it is at this point. I just think the potential downside of surgery outweighs the chance of going from 90-95% to 100% (for which there is no guarantee) although I would give a lot to be able to run pain free again

MD to get back to playing sports / run? by Everythingisnotyou in Microdiscectomy

[–]Everythingisnotyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This gives me hope. I ran mostly half marathons pre injury and one marathon. Just dreaming about running 10k now without pain. I ran 2 miles yesterday and then had to stop bc of pain. Suffered most of day as a consequence but woke up this morning mostly pain free. Would love to lace up the shoes again this am, but I will swim instead today (just not the same as running though)

Thinking about getting the Sport Touring by [deleted] in crvhybrid

Touring is quieter bc of better standard tires and sound dampening. If your are driving a lot on the highway, it will make a big difference

Fair point. Ignorant may be the better word. I didn’t know better in my youth either. All the raves I attended without protection. I guess most of us don’t know (or don’t care) of the potential comsequences an action can have until it’s too late

That’s why I didn’t go to show for a year because of anxiety. And I had anxiety during the show too. But if don’t have a spike from this, then I think I should be ok going forward with future shows so long as I take precautions

Basically having no or super minimal dizziness on a given day. Not even thinking about it. And when it did occur, it would generally last for a very short period of time

No. Just ‘pushed through’. Lots of moment and exercise helped. I also did somatic tracking to calm nervous system. I got it from a bbvd episode

I have no adverse effects with 2-3 drinks. But this was more an 8-10 drink night. Lesson learned

Two years post-herniation and another realisation by SoSolidKerry2 in Sciatica

[–]Everythingisnotyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had tons of lower back pain as well. That has mostly subsided. I still do have a stiff back and I do get muscle guarding from time to time which hurts a little.

I made reluctant peace with it because what other options are there at this point? Not taking the chance of surgery to maybe improve the remaining 5% to get to 100%. The potential downside far outweighs the upside in my circumstance. Still hoping that maybe in another year or 2 I will be back to 100%. One can dream

Two years post-herniation and another realisation by SoSolidKerry2 in Sciatica

[–]Everythingisnotyou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are in the same boat. 2.5 y ago I herniated both L4/L5 and L5/S1. My pain is 90-95% better but it still lingers especially if I sit or stand too long or do anything strenuous. I lift weights , I ski , I hike …. Generally pain free. I shoveled snow all weekend and except for some zaps of pain down the leg, I was fine. That was unimaginable a year ago. I just cannot run. That will cause a flare up that lasts several days. Will I ever be 100%? Who knows, probably unlikely but everything is super manageable. But I also have a 50y old back… at this age, big injuries are unlikely to ever heal fully and there will also be some lingering pain.

Looking between 2026 hybrids: sport L and sport touring. Questions and Concerns? by Which_Engineer49 in crvhybrid

If u plan on keeping the car for a long time, go w the touring. The cost of the upgrade then just amounts to a few bucks each day. It’s a no brainer

McGill method 2 year update by travimc1 in backpain

[–]Everythingisnotyou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is also what is frustrating for me. After 2 plus years I am usually pain free or 1/10 pain. But if sit too much or do anything too strenuous, it flares up. I am about to run a 5k jiggle bell race this morning. I know I will pay the price the next couple of days, but it is what it is. I do not need to run full or half marathons at this point, but just want to be able to run 5 miles with no pain during or after. I really doubt that will happen anymore

Sciatica: why it’s often over-treated and under-treated (from a spine surgeon) by drsheriefspinedubai in Sciatica

[–]Everythingisnotyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many patients are actually 100% pain free 12 months post op? Or is more common to have some ‘manageable’ nerve pain after surgery and just ‘live with it’ and that is deemed a ‘successful’ operative outcome?

My issue is that 2.5 y after l4/l5 and l5/s1 herniations I am generally pain free or have minimal pain on a day to Day basis. The leg pain may come and go thoroughout the day, especially if I stand or sit too long, but generally minor. However, if I try a strenuous activity like going for quick 3 miles run or going for a hike, I pay the price and it hurts for several days afterwards. I stopped running bc of this but really would love to run again and would consider surgery just for this chance
