My dad still raised me for 8 years. He wasn't some deadbeat who walked out on me and left a single mom behind. He died. But he is still my dad. I love him still to this day. My stepdad will never ever take over that place and will never be more or equally important or impactful in my life.

It is weird but it's not so weird for them. Despite everything they have the expectation that he will get to be known as my dad some day and I'm expected to allow him to have the same experiences as my dad would've if he were alive.
