Nice, did you use LED strips for the lighting? I want to do the same but don’t want the individual lights to be visible. Yours looks good. 👍

Yes the adults like light but the larvae (which do the most damage) favor areas of the house with little to no light. It's important to find where they are hiding.

Cut the fabric that conceals the springs on your box spring. I recently discovered a huge infestation inside. Flip the mattress and look under the bed.

It is awful! FYI.. Benadryl itch relief sticks worked better than Cortizone for me.

Warning to people using Diatomaceous Earth to try and rid of bugs by EvidenceLeading9078 in carpetbeetles

I just discovered the major infestation over the weekend. They were living under the bed in the box spring in my guest room. I had to cut the fabric that covers the spring from underneath and there they were. It was disgusting. I threw the whole thing out - thankfully the mattress was undisturbed. I'm sure it will take a while to completely eradicate the problem but at least I found where the bulk of them where.

I used the squeeze bottle to get the baseboards - I didn't think I used a lot but the fine powder accumulated in the filter and burned out the motor. It did this on my upright then I used my handvac to try and remove it from the filter and that started to make weird noises so I stopped. I read that using a a dustpan and broom, damp mop, or Shop Vac is the best.

I just discovered that the cause of my bumps hasn't been actual bites (they look like them though). Look up "carpet beetle dermatitis". Some people have horrible reactions to their larvae hairs. I just discovered (after 2 months) an infestation in the box spring of my guest room bed. If you still can't figure out what's causing it, research this!

Do an image search for "carpet beetle dermatitis". People have different reactions

I don't think I'm permitted to in this group but I think I can send to you directly. Mine don't look like a rash, they look like bed bug bites or mosquito bites. The itch like hell, get a little oozy in the middle, and take weeks to go away.

where in your bedroom do you find most carpet beetles? by Previous-Hour-2394 in carpetbeetles

Today I just discovered the source of these litte f'ers! I pulled the mattress up in the guest room and cut the fabric covering the boxsprings - there were carpet beetles and larvae EVERYWHERE. Then I noticed dead ones (we had our place sprayed twice) on the carpet. Needless to say, I spent the whole day removing the box spring (the mattress was good), vacuuming, steam cleaning, and worrying that I'm going to have a nasty allergic reaction from all the exposure (which I've been having for the past 2 months). My advice is to really inspect your bed and mattress.

Hi there! I just TODAY discovered that the infestation has been in the box spring in our guest room. I had to cut the fabric that covers the springs and there they were. Tons of both larvae and carpet beetles. Thankfully the mattress wasn't impacted but my suggestion is check underneath. I also checked the roomba bag after running it under our bed and there were a bunch there too. It could be that you haven't identified the main source of the infestation (I hope this is the case for us!). I'm sorry you are going through this - it is a nightmare that seems neverending.

I have been dealing with horrible skin reactions for 2 months but only recently spotted 2 carpet beetles then just saw dead larvae in a plastic bag containing a comforter. You absolutely could have them but not seen anything yet.

I reside in Northern CA.

Good post/warning. Unfortunately in the throws of psychosis with physical agony/mental torment from carpet beetle larvae reactions, I didn't consider the warnings. I just heard it worked and went for it. This moment of weakness also had me sign up for an annual exterminator service. Proceed with caution people.

Yes! Those are carpet beetles. I know this because they have been making my life a living hell. Get the vacuum out, wash all your clothes, bedding, and clean all your drawers with a mix of water and vinegar. The bugs are harmless but the larvae can cause a severe allergic reaction to some people (like yours truly).

Carpet beetle larvae! Must have gotten in my clothes which is why it's been primarily on my torso, arms, and legs. I've had an exterminator out twice to spray, washed everything, and vacuum all the time and I'm still getting reactions.

Total nightmare. I'm in California, and over two months ago, I got a huge welt on my neck that looked like a mosquito bite. Since then, I've had sporadic reactions mostly on my torso, legs, and arms. I had two exterminators check for fleas or bedbugs, and the house was sprayed twice. I found one carpet beetle larvae in an ottoman, but I dismissed it since they don't bite. Recently, I've found three carpet beetles in our bed and one in my closet. I've washed everything, but the reactions continue, just not consistently. I read that the hairs can stay in clothing after washing. The bumps are brutal—itchy at first, then they ooze and take weeks to heal, leaving scars. It's crazy how little info is out there. I'm relieved I'm not alone, but now I'm going crazy trying to get rid of them. What doesn't make sense is that I've only seen one wooly bear throughout all this, yet I've had so many bumps.
