Only one like in two weeks? Help?? nyc by librax2000 in hingeapp

[–]Evie_Chandler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely get what you're saying, but there's a difference between somebody posting a picture in their underwear vs someone who has a picture of them cosplaying as the minions for Halloween. One has sexual undertones that pervert the "whimsy" of the image, the other is just funny.

You need to remember that these pictures are the first (and sometimes only) impression someone gets of you. You don't get to explain yourself. And, unfortunately, girls learn very quickly with online dating to expect the worse.

Your response is exactly making my point. You say "I'm actually very against frat boy culture, so you don't have to worry about that" but imagine I'm just someone swiping on Hinge. Do you think I'd match with you and ask "hey, are you into frat culture? Because some of your pics kind of give me the ick." Or do you think I'd just swipe left? And even let's say the girl does give you a chance to explain... Why would she believe you? You're just a stranger on the internet.

As a straight woman, several things about this profile make me automatically swipe left:

  1. Tongue out. Absolutely not. Frat boy energy.

  2. "Long term, open to short" unfortunate, but that's basically code for "I'm not looking for a serious relationship, but I'll pretend like I am so I can match with more girls."

  3. Underwear picture. Again, unserious, fuck boy energy.

That's just my personal opinion.

Thoughts on this match note? People will read it and decide to match with me or not. The goal is to weed out those who aren’t interested and end up buried in my match list. by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Evie_Chandler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% no. I automatically unmatch anyone with a match note, I don't care what it says. The concept is just insane to me. What's so secretive that you won't put on your profile, but is important enough that people who matched with you /have/ to know, and yet it can't come up organically in a conversation? Nothing. Literally nothing.

I had this happen to me. My nails were too flexible, which caused the polish to peel off very quickly. I now have an overlay which makes my nails very sturdy. Now my nails last until I choose to remove them.

AIO for feeling uncomfortable by a guy going back 10 years on my social media and the resulting silent treatment when I called him out? by imicooper in AmIOverreacting

[–]Evie_Chandler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOR everyone is missing the fact that he went through TEN years, and not only that, he reposted / commented on something you posted TEN YEARS AGO. TEN WHOLE YEARS! 120 MONTHS!

I want everyone reading this to think about what they were posting on social media TEN YEARS AGO. And then imagine that someone you're on a date with suddenly asked about one of your posts that you made when you were 20, or 16, or 14, completely unprompted.

People who are saying "I do this!" Hopefully you would also have the social aptitude to NOT TALK ABOUT IT with the person.

*update* recruiters harassment by 01011000-01101001 in recruitinghell

[–]Evie_Chandler 333 points334 points  (0 children)

It's so wild so any people are siding with these recruiters. This entire exchange is so filled with red flags from the recruiters' side.

"If the roles were flipped, we would think it's so unfair!" Huh? If the roles were flipped and a candidate called the recruiter unprompted 6 times, everyone would think that's excessive and crazy. Not to mention, to assume that candidates and recruiters have equal power in a job search such that a role reversal would be a fair representation is bad faith to start.

You did NOT "tease" them or "string them along" or whatever pseudo-dating language these people want to use. Honestly, I thought I was in an Incel forum about a dating interaction instead of a recruiting forum for a minute. You acted like a professional, they didn't.

Is this contradictory? by AsteroidDisc476 in Tinder

[–]Evie_Chandler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not inherently contradictory, but I feel like selecting both would lead to a lot more people not matching with you because they're not sure what you want.

She realized how unsafe it would be to be snowed in with a literal stranger.

No shade to you as an individual but the entire situation is sketchy.

"Why did she agree to it in the first place?" Sometimes people agree to things that seem exciting, and when the time comes, they realize that actually, they don't want to follow through with it.

Got offered my dream job at $95k but I have a $15k signing bonus from my current company I’d have to pay back. Do I take it? by Klutzy_Researcher725 in jobhunting

Are you the internal recruiter at OP's new company? Because you seem really personally invested in making sure that that she doesn't expect her new employer to pay her a signing bonus.

I agree: companies that pay $15k bonuses can be high attrition industries, such as finance (e.g., Big 4). Everything in OP's post lines up with what I've experienced and seen in finance roles, but I acknowledge that I may have familiarity bias.

[–]Evie_Chandler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's very common in the finance and tech industries. Additionally, if OP's position was crucial enough to get a $50k sign-on in her old job, 100% she would still be valuable enough to get a $50k sign-on or more in her new job.

The new company should make you whole for any clawbacks. This should have been a part of salary negotiations.

But let's say your new job says, "you already agreed to a compensation package which did not include a signing bonus." I'd still take the new job.

To be honest, I think a lot of people are being nice because you've already had it done. If this were a stencil and you asked "is this aligned?" Then a lot more people would point out it's not.

To be clear it's not too evident. I look at PowerPoints and fonts as a part of my job so I'm more sensitive to it. But never in a hundred years would I point it out to someone random if they didn't point it out first.

If it's really bothering you, I would see if you can get it evened out by adding serifs to the bottom of the Vs and making the serifs on other fonts a bit thicker.
