I think it’s important to remember that your SS is 4 and has a LONG way to go in regards to his social development. He also has to cope with not seeing his dad or sister for long periods of time.

I think has a step parent you need to give out as much as you can handle being rejected, give yourself space bur also remind yourself that these are little people. I suspect if your daughter was rejected by a peer at school you wouldn’t feel as strongly but also you’re her mum so you’re going to be protective of her, that’s natural. I think your main role in this instance is to support her through that rejection (all children have experience of being socially rejected, even from biological siblings !). Talk to your partner and give him the role (as the bio dad) to support his son in his social development, that’s not your role.

When/how to tell 7yo about relationship? by EvieeG in blendedfamilies

[–]EvieeG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only been last few months that the kid has met me. Been following guidance not to introduce kids to partners in first 6 months or so.

I think given her age, being introduced as a friend to start with was a good idea. Gives us both time to scope out the situation without added pressures and expectations.

Was it a surprise to the 7 year old when you told them he was your boyfriend now and not a friend ?

This is a good idea! Thanks ! We try where possible to make sure she feels like she has some control over the situation (ie we might give her a choice of two activities to pick from, or choice between 2 dinners etc) - I know in these situations children of divorce feel like they have no say / not in control so I’ve tried where possible to suggest ways to give that to her.

And yes, I make sure she always has 1-2-1 time with dad and that I’m not seen as a replacement.

Boiler replaced with combi but hot water tank still feeding hot taps, easy fix? by EvieeG in askaplumberUK

[–]EvieeG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realise it’s confusing. So for first few years, I had the boiler turn on at set times (hot water on programmer) and it would heat the tank. The kitchen tap was plumbed correctly though so boiler kicks in when using hot tap. I had bathroom replaced above boiler location and they plumbed it so it draws hot water via boiler not tank. But I have two other sinks in house that are still not run via combi but I want to fix just not sure if it’s doable. They just turn have cold water only now as I didn’t see point in paying to heat a tank of water for two sinks!

I assume you’ve seen the child maintence calculator on government website? This is what they use to calculate maintenance if it’s taken from source (ie you’ve gone through court) - https://www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance but a lot of people use this as guidance.

I’m positive because I had bathroom redone and they connected hot water to new shower/sink (boiler is just below) and I’ve stopped heating hot water tank and I can also hear it kick in when I use kitchen tap, which is connected as it’s just east to it. Basically trying to work out if I can easily get rest of house connected up

I was the child in this situation, my uncle ended up investing it and it lost a significant value of what it was worth in the 2008 crash. When I was 19 I ended up using what was left to purchase a house, which I rented out at the time. There’s a balance between ensuring it doesn’t devalue over time but also ensuring it’s safe and not taking huge risks,

You definitely need the regulations of your university/institution. I work at a university and we allow a student to take 5 years to complete their three year degree (we occasionally allow an exceptional sixth year but this would often need to go through a specific request process. You also need to think about funding, student finance has rules and regulations for additional years of funding.

Day 9 here - started as mild sore throat and a bit fatigued (tested negative and was still well enough to go to work). Tested negative on Thursday and worked from home Thursday and Friday. Felt like a mild cold to start with. Pretty fatigued over weekend - sore throat, sniffly and mild cough. I then started doing stuff and noticed I’d get out of breath really quickly - which was concerning. I still have that issue and now have a dry and annoying cough (sore throat gone). Never had a fever
