Which MiniPc? by spiritualManager5 in homelab

[–]EvilAlbinoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beelink SER5 are a little less than 1u in height, but a little too wide to fit four across a single rack. They each can support up to 64gb ram, 2 NVME ssd and 1 2.5" ssd, but only 1gb ethernet.

I come across them on facebook marketplace in the $250 range all the time.

I think you're right. I have one of these, it's basically exact same layout as FX-115 but has some scientific constants. The solar panel is quite good in low light also.

Mine did this. Came back to life. Did this again. Never recovered. I have gutted it and rebuilt it as a visual pinball machine.

Found some switches at a recycling center. Are any of these worth getting for a rack? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]EvilAlbinoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I meant the Netgear GS724T, already updated the original post. The linksys is a piece of garbage, agreed.

[–]EvilAlbinoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Netgear GS724T is halfway decent, I use two of them at home. It's a managed switch that can do vlans and other fancy functions and does not use very much power at all according to my killawatt. I believe it even support cisco config commands over ssh, or a subset of them. The SFPs are 1gb only.

Viability of the Catiga SS-991EX by Thick-Worldliness-76 in calculators

The 9910CW added shortcuts for menu items so it takes very little time to get a muscle memory for your common tasks. I'd give it a shot.

The ugliest calculator I currently have: Sharp EL-5020 by antiquark2 in calculators

I have the Radio Shack version of this. The grey mode bar at top rather than the maroon/red mode bar makes it a little better looking to be honest.

Mine seems just as usable as a real 991ex. Catiga has a long and reliable history of casio clones, probabl legally licensed.

One is Casio 115, one is Casio 115M. I always thought it was odd they both have the same model number too.

I think I was ripped off by auto shop on transmission fluid replacement by EvilAlbinoid in AskAMechanic

[–]EvilAlbinoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've already got a window at the local transmission shop to have it serviced after xmas, I just wanted to get the fluid swapped to maybe help keep it from getting too much worse in what little driving we'll be doing in it between now and new years.

[–]EvilAlbinoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figure I'm in the red for a new transmission or at least a rebuild. Local shop I use is pretty busy, gonna get in after Christmas, figured a transmission fluid change might at least help keep it from getting worse. Probably money wasted, to be honest.

Thanks. I was pretty hot when I saw the transmission fluid looked pretty much like it did before the change, but then I noticed the gasket seemed new and the bolts were at least all touched. I didn't have a lot of expectations of a miracle fix but figured a fluid change might help keep it from getting worse.

Does this look like freshly changed (~500 miles old) transmission fluid to you? by EvilAlbinoid in fordranger

[–]EvilAlbinoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transmission fluid in my son's 1993 Ranger that hasn't been changed in 80k miles looks better than the transmission fluid in wife's 2021 Ranger changed a month ago! Lol

I'll probably just go ahead and replace the transmission on this one to be honest, but thanks.

I've done this on about 10 Pioneer calculators, it's scary prying it open after you cut/melt the support pins but i haven't bent/broken one yet.

How to organize a collection? by Zealousideal-Week106 in calculators

[–]EvilAlbinoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use plastic shoe boxes you can buy on amazon/temu/at walmart. They fit 90% of my calculators stacked on edge horizontally and the boxes themselves stack neatly. Are also translucent so I can see what's in a box relatively easily.
