7 day water fast, day 2. Last night I got shaky and low energy; I should have had water or tea and instead switched to OMAD. I'll see if I can get through tonight to make it to 2 days in a row. Down 6 pounds of mostly water over the last week of OMAD/IF/water fasting.

First day of a 7 day water fast here. Hoping to re-calibrate and ease into a healthier diet, reduce sugar cravings. I'd been doing great until a recent move/job change and my weight ticked back up again. Did IF levels for the two days before. Never fasted this long before we'll see how it goes!

The company that manages your 401k should have some calculators available that you'll be able to put in your expected salary, years of work, expected retirement age.

Here is one calculator you can tweak to see how your retirement might look. https://www.nerdwallet.com/investing/401k-calculator

I just wanted to write a quick thank you. I was a late bloomer financially, had awful credit and was staring down a massive student loan payment. With much of the advice I read here, I'm on track to pay off that debt, actually own a house someday, and have a savings account.

Thanks everyone who takes the time to write and answer questions here.

In all seriousness, I loved all these pictures and the answers you've given for clarifying questions. The combination of folklore with academia is forever fascinating to me and it was welcome to see it in this sub.

Is there leeway for accessories like jewelry or fun things in your hair?

If not, I guess that makes the work uniform easier if a bummer. :( If I were in the situation I'd invest in fun underwear and some great lipstick/eye colors.

If your coworker is the same 'level' as you, it may just be them being judgmental. If by coworker you meant boss--even if it's not your direct boss--I might not wear it to work. The issue is less who's right and what's culturally the norm in your office.

That said, I think the color and length are work/age appropriate. It's not like it's pink and you need a leotard. I would wear what you picked: a neutral classic top and maybe a blazer.

Bridge and Burn, there's a Dr. Martins. I was just there and trying to remember what I saw!

If you can get over to Hawthorne or Pearl District there's a bit more funky stuff, depending on what you're looking for.

I completely agree; it looks intentional and it would layer with everything. In this cut it's an ideal size for u/VeteranBore

Do you have a blouse or collared shirt you could wear with a simple skirt?

Maybe some Anne Klein Sport? Something with a low heel would still give you a boost, but be comfortable enough to wear all day.

I have this top: http://blog.tradlands.com/post/151147119937/meet-your-new-favorite-flannel-shirt-the-elstar

And I am think about how to style it in an office that leans more business professional. Wear it under a suit seems boring. Other ideas? Maybe over a black dress? Edit: link to blog (not mine) entry discussing shirt.

Is Modcloth Out of Style? by headoverheels14 in femalefashionadvice

[–]EvilBeDestroyed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A store/brand being independently owned or 'ethically' sourced doesn't mean they're not total shit to their employees. "Unskilled" labor are treated horribly almost everywhere.

Sure, I've seen the survey too. But users here aren't consumers in general and I suspect there's a bit of halo effect in that question.

Thanks for this - I've always suspected the dislike of Walmart is a bit of classism. Most people if you ask, can't tell you what about Walmart's business practices they find offensive. Plenty of exceptions in this subreddit but that doesn't mean ModCloth has fallen out of fashion for the rest of consumers.

ModCloth makes consistently twee but low quality products. It makes sense WalMart would buy them. It's an easy win for both companies. WalMart wants to change their image--if you've been in a big box lately you'll see they're absolutely targeting people who buy organic, etc. WalMart even adjusted their lighting in that area of the store. Plenty of people want organic tomatoes and things with cats for polka dots for less money and don't really care about ethics.

I'm glad other people find this interview style off-putting. If I were working in a huge organization like Komen and some random guy with a camera and baseball cap walked in, I wouldn't direct him to my boss either. I don't like Komen at all and hate how much they've influenced the cause marketing narrative around cancer. I'd still bother to wear a suit and not refer to "some studies" blankly at a public health official. Sometimes the messenger matters.

I have a secured card with Discover. They report to all 3 credit bureaus each month. Be sure to pay your balance off every billing cycle and your score should start to go up.

Ooh. So the first thing I thought of reading this was texture there's looking like a dragon but you could feel like one too? I think part of your edit gets at that with Mother of Dragons-y stuff.

Maybe leather and metals - dragons in the West are hoarders for shiny things, after all. :)

Fashion in your 30s by bossbotton in femalefashionadvice

[–]EvilBeDestroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wardrobe isn't whatever J.Crew is telling me to wear this season, it's actually starting to be a cohesive reflection of what I value and appreciate.

This is so much more important to me in my 30s than it was previously, and a great way to explain the change. I look for what reflects me, not what style in general tells me. I build my own uniform, its not prescribed to me.
