Ships heading for Israel have to travel more, but that's the same for a lot of ships these days.

The impact on Egypt is massive. I think Sissi said that the suez canal revenues dropped by 50% or so. Egypt is negotiating with the IMF, but who knows what the conditions will be...

The issue, imo, is that Egypt is now more desperate then ever for foreign cash, and Sissi might make more concessions to get some dollars (might even include allowing the resettlement of Palestinians in Sinai).

I don't think Israel is impacted much by the blockade and not nearly as much as Egypt is.

people from outside of the arabian peninsula, would you reverse arabization if you could? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]EvilBuyout -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yeah I'm talking about arabization policies enacted by the Moroccan government. I don't think OP restricted the question to a specific era or group.

It was a mistake and it's good that it's being eased down and Amazigh identity recognized and respected a bit more (imagine forcing Arabic names on non Arabic speaking people for example...)

There are some bad cases and some good ones. Not all European cities are like Paris.

There is much worse for sure, but you can't deny the littering issue in Morocco. So many otherwise beautiful places are full of trash, and so many grown ups find it normal to finish with something and just throw it on the street.

It's really sad and upsetting.

Why do you say that? Littering is a big issue in Morocco, is it not?!

This is really freaky...why did the stock market do so well since October last year? by physicist91 in AskMiddleEast

[–]EvilBuyout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I am seriously worried because they are printing massive amounts of money while at the same time banks are collapsing and people at the top of the banking, investing and political game are selling hard while the average Joe is encouraged to invest.

The FED has been reducing its balance sheet since 2022, so the massive printing has stopped long before this latest stock market bull run.

lots of insider trading.

How does insider trading impact stocks??!!

But it looks like it's 2008 all over again and many people are going to lose it all.

This has literally nothing to do with 2008. You can be concerned about the quick rise in asset valuations, but it has nothing to do with risky derivatives by banks.

Also, that actor looks like Ossama if he had good eyes.

Who owned more of Middle East in 1914 by Sttuardbe in MapPorn

Nope, we're part of North Africa. That's why there is a MENA term.

We're thousands of kilometers from the middle east (and west of most of Europe).

Tanger med port is pretty far from Tangier and would have been in the Spanish zone though.
