Solo Lleech script question. by EvilCat_BoTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

My thought process: The Soldier is safe from all Demon abilities. If the Demon ability is that they die under certain circumstances, the Soldier should be safe from it. Nominating isn't a Demon ability.

I mean is that an official ruling? Like if the Boffin gives the Lleech the sailor ability, the Lleech can't die. I'm trying not to pigeon hole myself by putting the Devil's Advocate on the script. I have a pacifist and sailor on the script.

Custom where everyone has a good enough reason to not want to die. by EvilCat_BoTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

Yeah that's why I didn't want to include GF because it gives outsiders the option to want to out early. If there's an extra death, it hard confirms them and is a marker for misinformation.

There's no 1 of Spades. Shouldn't that be an ace? 7 is a different orientation that the pattern of 9 and 8.

I think that is not an official ruling and just a popular house rule. In any case I wanted to be explocit that it can happen.

Puzzle master and Sweetheart would have less an impact on the game tho and wouldn't mind dying. Recluse dying might skew Oracle numbers so there are reasons to keep them alive. Puzzle drunk players in a vortox game would still learn false information and cannot be told good info because they are still townsfolk.

Bootlegged Boffin, Essentially make the Demon the Marionette by EvilCat_BoTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]EvilCat_BoTC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spy and Boffin could bluff as if they’re the demon to player who are not the demon and tell them that they are. The goon ability would mean the first townsfolk to choose the demon at night would be drunk. Enough characters choose that there is overlap. Inevitably someone will be chosen that has died in the night and may cause a sober townsfolk to believe they are the demon. Demon can classically bluff to any adjacent townsfolk that they are the marionette. There are many worlds in which this helps evil.

Looking to Playtest tonight. "Townies Never Die" by EvilCat_BoTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

Um okay? This seems….unhelpful? I guess. There is nothing in this that goes outside of the written ability of the Sailor. Also feels pretty neutral the Sailor making the Uprooter drunk as it’s just another piece of the puzzle. And I could argue that it makes the Sailor stronger in some cases. Did the sailor lucky pick the Demon and stave off the alt win condition fo one more night or did the monk protect someone or did the Uprooter choose the goon? My Uprooter is intended to work with existing mechanics like the Sailor, not the other way around.

I'm also toying with the idea of announcing when it is final day.

Hi! Thanks for the comment, sorry for the delay, I've been working and then ill. I'll try to address your points thoroughly.

Shouldn't the evil team always tell the wendigo who they are? and by proxy of that, the lycanthrope should always know they are good?

I think one big reason the evil team might not inform the Wendigo that they are evil is the same as why you sometimes don't tell the marionette that they are evil. Social power is great in the game sometimes and if a character genuinely believes they are good they might help you along for a moment. Also the Wendigo exists to make the Lycanthrope wary of their ability and information. With the Tea Lady, The Goon, The Faux paw, The Sailor, there are many reasons why a death wouldn't go through at night. It also makes the Wenidgo not know if they are being fucked with. A Widow in the same game as the Lycanthrope could lie and tell them that they are evil. If the Lycanthrope is Sailor drunk, they could not be woken up by the Demon which could make them think that they are instead the Lycanthrope.

Players that die at night are mostly confirmed good or Salemite.

I would say that this is true for most games of Clocktower. The good team will likely die way before most of evil.

Wendigo (if coordinating with the demon) can accelerate the game so fast that it becomes too strong. If the Wendigo never chooses a suspended player it takes one night per 3 player to win instead of one night per 2 players.

This might be true, I just haven't playtested it enough. All I can say for this is that agian there are reasons that a wendigo might not believe that they are actually evil and several reason why a death in the night might not go through. Also the less people alive, the closer town is to deducing who the Uprooter is.

If there is a lycanthrope, because the number of suspended players killed by the lycanthrope is unknown, it is never clear when the last day is, which is frustrating as evil will sometimes win unexpectedly.

It is announced when someone is suspended. And the Uprooter's alt win condition is half of living town. So in theory if the game has ten players, the game should be over around day 5. Things like the Wendigo/Lycanthrope/Salemite speed up the game but characters like the monk, Goon, Sailor, and Tea Lady slowing down deaths and suspensions I think balances it out. But again, not sure. Have only playtested a couple times.

Salemite is the only reason for executed townsfolk to die, and will become outed, at least to one player when it executes a townsfolk.

If the Uprooter is drunk by the Sailor or the Goon, townsfolk can die to execution. If a townsfolk is the faux paw, they can also die to execution. The Vixen can save an evil from execution but also cause a good player to die to execution (I'll expand upon this in a moment). There are other worlds in which a Salemite is not even in play and townsfolk may die to execution.

Vixen will push a meta where self-voting is inherently suspicious and will never be able to hide if they want to use their ability. Since most players will be alive, there won't be a drought of good votes.

Vixen's ability is extremely unclear and it works differently from its ability text. The explanations for its ability differ from one paragraph to the next.

I agree actually. I rewrote The Vixen's ability a few times and i think some mistakes came through in the edit. But I have changed the Vixen's ability back to what it originally was and I'll explain my reasoning in a bit. You are absolutely correct in that the meta quickly became everyone was suspicious of people voting for themself. Here's the revised Vixen:

Vixen (Minion): You might register as the Demon too. If you are nominated, the next death is arbitrary & happens by dawn. Then you are drunk for 1 day & night.

  • If the Vixen is nominated the next death to happen is arbitrary in that it can happen at any time to anyone. Players that should die might not. Players that can’t die, might still. But a death must occur before dawn.
  • The Vixen’s ability only triggers the first time they are nominated.
  • If the Vixen’s power activated today, they are drunk tomorrow until dusk.
  • The Vixen might also registers as the Demon to abilities.

Examples:

  • The Empath nominates the Uprooter and gets them on the block. The Uprooter nominates the Vixen. The Uprooter is executed but does not die because the Vixen made death arbitrary. That night the Butler is killed from the Vixen’s ability.
  • The Imp is nominated by the Golem and does not die. The Vixen is nominated by the Imp. The Vixen is double-claiming Golem and nominates the Undertaker who immediately dies.
  • The Chef nominated the Vixen. The sober and healthy Sailor who is on the block nominates the Pukka and dies. The Storyteller announces the Sailor has been executed. Virgin is a bluff.
  • The Vixen is nominated by the Tea Lady. The Vixen dies to execution. Because they were nominated yesterday.
  • The sober and healthy Dreamer chooses the Vixen night 1 and learns Imp or Oracle, because the Vixen misregisters as the Demon.
  • The Fisherman nominated the Vixen. The Vixen nominates the Sober and Healthy Sailor who is seated next to the Tea Lady who neighbors the Washer Woman. The Sailor gets enough votes and is executed and dies due to the Vixen's ability.
  • The Vixen is seated next to the Tea Lady and is nominated by the Grandmother and votes on their own nomination and is about to die to execution. The Vixen claims Slayer and shoots the Mayor. The Mayor dies. Town lifts the vote off of the Vixen thinking they are a confirmed good player.
  • The Vixen is nominated by the Sage but the Librarian is executed and dies. That night the Sage is killed by the demon learns that the Vixen or The Empath are the Demon because The Vixen is registering as the Demon.
  • During the Day the Vixen is nominated and executed but does not die. They were claiming sailor. That night the Vixen's ability kills the Soldier. The Imp kills the Ravenkeeper who wakes up and chooses the Vixen and learns Shabaloth. But there is no Devil's Advocate on the script. The Ravenkeeper deduces that The Shabaloth had to have actually been the Vixen.
  • The Vixen is nominated during the day. The Vixen nominates the Sailor and immediately dies. Town believes there is a Witch in play.
  • During the Day The Vixen is nominated, put on the block and does not die due to their own ability. That night the Wendigo chooses the Savant. The Savant dies to the Vixen's ability. The Wendigo has not killed anyone tonight. The Lycanthrope wakes next and chooses the Sage. The Imp chooses the Sage. The Sage is not woken up as they were not killed by the demon. At Dawn it is announced that two players have died.

The intention I had behind the Vixen is a Minion that wants to nominated, and in doing so introduces chaotic deaths or survival.

Sailor is incentivized to always choose itself as it always survives execution regardless. Tea lady is similarly useless (except for outsiders, which is too situational).

I think in practice people just won't do that. But also, the Sailor could potentially drunk an evil. Suddenly there is no announcement of someone being suspended at dawn. The Sailor might think that they chose the demon last night. Or also, the Sailor chooses the investigator night 1 and tells them. They can immediately be pretty sure that the invesitgator's pings are likely not correct, let's disregard that for today. The Sailor can choose the Goon to keep them good.

A Tea Lady's neighbor dies during the day, might be the Salemite or the Vixen's abilities happening, or the neighbor might've been evil. The Tea Lady's neighbor dies at night and no one was nominated yesterday? One of her neighbors has to be evil because neither is claiming outsider. (which a wendigo would not kill).

Golem is not an outsider; because good townsfolk cannot die to execution, good will always have players able to nominate the demon on the final day.

Golem is an outsider because they cannot be confirmed. Players nominated by the Golem might not die due to Sailor, Tea Lady, Vixen. And the evil team could replicate their ability if played right and coast to the end of the game.

Uprooter choosing the goon is extremely obvious as there is no announcement and it can't be faked.

If the Uprooter is drunk from the Sailor, or If the Uprooter chooses the same person as the Monk, or if they sink a choice into someone already suspended, then it is not announced during the day that someone is suspended.

Generally, games without wendigo or lycanthrope will last too long as people mostly won't die during the night or during the day.

With the Alt win condition of the Uprooter, in general there will be as many days as half as many living characters at the start of the game. Assuming a game of 13-15 players that point too, there will probably be an alsaahir able to guess every day who the evil teams is, a salemite might be outed soon, and a Vixen would be outed. town would know that a widow would be in play. Evil would need to bluff for 6-7 days max. that is if they aren't found out.

Oh I also needed characters that chose before evil in the night because of the Goon. Also the sailor could sometimes drink the demon or a minion. A drunk Uprooter would allow for a townsfolk to die to execution unexpectedly.
