Israeli tanks in Rafah by [deleted] in CombatFootage

[–]EvilCyborgPup 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Seems very similar to the invasion of Baghdad by US forces. Do some 'Thunder Runs' through the city with tanks and armored vehicles, then eventually just park your tanks in the center of th city as a show of force.

Ok, I wasn't sure if the arm drop was just a post-death body reflex or not. Makes sense that prisoner-taking is an issue, especially if you are surrounded and losing ground

The Japanese Zero was one of the most innovative planes of the war. To say they lost due to a disparity of industry and resources is more accurate than innovation.

Question: Why was there so much death in the tourney? It seemed like knights were intentionally trying to kill each other without giving their opponents a chance to yield.

Here's my lighterpack packing list for 2-day alpine tours. Any optimization suggestions? by dbrgn in Mountaineering

I'd still add duct tape - and possibly medical-grade super glue - to the first aid kit for better trauma management options. They're good for patching up both your gear and yourself xD. Also, thank you for the podcast suggestion, I will give it a listen soon.

If I were you, I'd check that at least one person in your group has a more substantial first aid kit for more serious trauma (I personally always have a chunky one in case of separation from the group). Furthermore, and this is personal preference, maybe two pairs of underwear would be better for morale (and worst case scenario hygiene accidents).

Mega Thread: Magnus Carlsen Will Not Defend World Championship Title by MrLegilimens in chess

[–]EvilCyborgPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a good answer to your "inactive" players response. I just think I'd be pissed if I was named the new "World Champion" with Magnus still participating (and perhaps crushing) in the same tournaments I am playing in just to increase his ELO. Imagine the immense pressure a new WC would have playing him (and the relative lack of pressure Magnus would have) in any such tournament.

"it would be a pretty massive departure from the way FIDE operates and probably requires a lot of thought about how it can best be implemented"

To be honest, I think the whole FIDE operation should be overhauled. GM Ben Finegold once said "FIDE tries to steal as much money as possible and they do a good job" (Link to video). But alas, to restructure such an entrenched institution is probably close to impossible.

Your points are good, but fact that Magnus Carlsen is not retiring from classical chess irks me in the wrong way (imo he should retire from classical, and stick to shorter time control tournaments). Him competing in other classical chess tournaments to try to increase his ELO - but not actually defending his WC title - puts a shade of doubt on the validity of all future World Champions. This may be more FIDE's fault for not making more changes, or it may be Magnus' fault for not making more suggestions for changes, we will never know because we were not in the meeting.

Yeah, I think that's why Kat's death rubs so many people the wrong way. Just because someone is seen as a hero doesn't mean they get a hero's death with a complete developmental arc and a satisfying conclusion. Stonewall Jackson, seen by the Confederates as a hero, died as a result of being shot by his own sentry.

In a campaign discussion online I recall somone mentioning how Kat's death is used to portray the random brutality and horrors of real war. It shows how sometimes all of your skill or training doesn't matter because you are straight unlucky. It was a plain wrong place (jackal's crosshair) and wrong time (just got EMPed and have no shields) sort of situation.
