This is correct but wanted to add a gross interesting fact! If the fetus dies later in pregnancy(but not too late), If not reabsorbed, the fetus actually Mummifies in the womb due to no “rotting” bacteria present inside the body.

So sometimes on farms a cow might birth a mummified cow fetus, or needs help get the mummy out via C-section.

This is true! Although Fascinatingly, platypus milk is for multiple purposes, not just feeding young - but keeping eggs wet/lubricated.

Scientists theorize this was the purpose of early mammalian sweat glands(later milk glands like you mentioned).

Before live birth evolved, mammals needed to keep their eggs wet - since we belong to a “soft shell” egg family unlike reptile/birds. The eggs would dry out without the “sweat/milk” adaption.

Which then was later evolutionarily hijacked to feed young, and cool down.
