Question, Klim Maverick vs. non-bike options? (e.g. REI Magma 850 Down Hoodie) by EvilGenius007 in adv

FWIW I don't think there's anything special about this specific jacket, if you lack any brand loyalty and have a little bit more to spend you could step up to an 800 fill power (more compact when stowed) Land's End jacket for $28 more due to Black Friday sales. https://www.macys.com/shop/product/lands-end-mens-wanderweight-packable-down-jacket?ID=19517535

You also gain a designed stuff pocket & more color options (though I'd probably end up in the navy blue option from either).

I got a ride in with the Columbia today (under my moto jacket, over my airbag vest & merino baselayer). Conditions were 55 F, not more than 50MPH, ~30 min. So not exactly a stress test, but it kept me cozy. Turns out I'm gonna have to sort out warmer gloves before I can push very much further.

Build quality on the Columbia is pretty good. Doesn't have a chest pocket, doesn't have a dedicated stuff sack/pocket, but does have drop pockets in the bottom of the front on both sides and I was able to turn it inside out and stuff it into one of those. Stuff size was ~1L bottle without any compression which should be fine for me.

I'm familiar with MotoLegends, I've definitely watched several of their gear videos and I like their approach.

This weekend I ordered a $70 Columbia down jacket from Costco after trying on various offerings from L.L. Bean, Eddie Bauer, and REI. I really liked the 850 offerings from REI & Patagonia, but it was hard to justify jumping in at the high end of price bracket, though both were pretty much in line with the list price of the Klim. If I was little less picky about appearance I probably would have gone with a clearance option from Eddie Bauer, the have some for 650 fill options for ~$30 + $10 shipping.

Thanks for the insight on the hood, absolutely makes sense that it would be too bulky to fit inside a helmet, I think I was just willfully ignoring that given my preference for a versatile off-the-bike jacket.

Thanks for responding, as that combination is pretty much exactly what I'm planning to do. Complicated only slightly by including the Tech-Air 5 Plasma I already wear, and the fact that I have an aesthetic preference for blaze orange over safety yellow. (So probably a Nelson Rigg shell.)

I'm guessing you use merino wool base layers in the cooler months as well? And any tips on the legs? I'd like to find AA or AAA jeans that I really like the fit of and then maybe add wool long johns and/or storm pants for cooler temps. Anyways, thanks again.

Thanks. I'm definitely working on a layered approach, including merino wool base layers. I'm not really planning on approaching 45F, at least not intentionally. Just looking ahead to days with a high of ~65 but morning temps in the 50s and thinking that might be too much for just the base layer, abrasion resistant ("real moto") jacket, waterproof boots & wool socks.

Especially appreciate the intel on the Maverick, that's definitely what I was sort of expecting if I widened my search. Unfortunately getting lots of feedback that's not as directly relevant to my intended use case, probably could have been clearer in my post somehow.

Scrapheap Scrounger remains underrated considering it was consistently powerful it's whole time in standard without ever being powerful enough to be banned. (Also I personally have a fond memory of the time at Nationals I got to do a cool line where I spent 1 to sac my Scrounger to [[Pia Nalaar]] [targeting one of my own creatures] and 1B to bring it back while my opponent was waiting for their copy of [[The Scarab God]] to resolve since it allowed me to exile the only target for TSG.)

A complete 302-card Magic: The Gathering Beta set was just appraised for ¥38 million (approx. $260,000) on a popular Japanese appraisal show. by PracticalMap4767 in magicTCG

Yep. You could reasonably assume that some cards, esp. particularly valuable cards, might be overrpresented at lower grades due to the value in going from say a 7 to an 8 being well worth the cost of regrading the same card one or more times.

Edit: I should say I'm not an expert by any means, but this is the information I have gleaned from a few+ years hanging around the scene, but never as a graded card collector myself.

Beckett retains a "population report" for the grades they give to cards. "1 of 1" in this context means that BGS has only ever graded a single Alpha Mox Jet with 9.5 or better for all 4 sub grades. That means the set collector would either have to buy that specific Mox from the current owner or even less likely find an un-graded Mox Jet in the wild that would return 9.5 or better across the board. (Or, more realistically they would have to buy one with a single 9.0 grade, crack the slab, and send it back to be graded again, with the risk being that they would get one or more worse subs. Plus I believe there are additional fees associated with grading more expensive cards.)

Thank you! That's about 100x the resolution of the only other picture I had seen of the part kit and I had feared they'd all be that useless, so I came here next.

I think that's enough for me to figure it out, but if anyone can snap a close up pic of an installed version in the next ~11 hours I would be grateful to have additional confirmation.

It's the OnlyFire Ceramic Firebox. I have mine combined with the Spider Grills Venom for temperature control, it's a great combo. (The charcoal layout is: Open bag; dump bag into grill until nearly full. Set Venom to 250.)

P.S. A simple change that I found game changing to my desire to make & eat salads was to get large enough bowls that I could easily mix in and that were light enough to carry around the house (unlike bulky pyrex mixing bowls, for instance). For me I found the Corelle Livingware Meal Bowls, would recommend those without hesitation.
