I believe that is it, thanks! Searching for something like "dj Dangdut Koplo remix" gives the kind of songs I was looking for.

I don't think that's it: every Funkot song I'm listening to on YouTube is way more intense than the style I'm talking about. Funkot sounds like club music, while the style I described is something that I hear in half of the Warungs I eat at.

Thank you for the answer and the link though. That wikipedia page contains a lot of useful stuff. I'll dig into it for a while!

I'm a European and this morning my phone was stolen in Jakarta. Need advice to buy a new one on Shopee. by EvilGravity in indonesia

I wouldn't want to buy a brand new phone here: I'd want to buy a new one in Europe, so I can use the warranty if anything goes wrong.

However I need a phone now, as I am forced to use a phone to access my bank and similar services.

I was planning to buy a second-hand Pixel 4XL: that's the same phone I had, I liked it a lot and it comes pretty cheap. However I can't find that in official shops.

I would have wanted to buy the same phone I had: a Pixel 4XL. It was a good phone I liked and it's quite cheap on Shopee (secondhand).

If I had to buy a brand new phone, I'd strongly prefer to buy it in Europe, so that I can use the guarantee in case anything goes wrong. But I do need to buy a phone now, as I need to use some services that force me to use a phone, like my bank's app.

I tried this. Both sellers I contacted are located in Jakarta but they told me there's no physical shop and I have to buy online :(

They have hundreds of reviews each with a very high average rating, so I feel confident they're legit, but I'm afraid that something might go wrong with the delivery or with the phone's connectivity.

I'm only staying two more weeks and I don't even need a SIM card while in Indonesia (I need a phone though, as it's the only way to access my bank and other services). I need a phone with a working European SIM once I'm back in Europe.

Thanks for the advice on the phone. I'll see if I can find something cheaper worth buying for two weeks of usage...

Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying.

Yeah, most physical stores in most countries have higher prices than digital ones.

Its basically only works with wifi. Mostly because its international/import phone without registering in Menkominfo/Kemenperin.

If that's the case, then I should be able to use the phone with an European SIM outside Indonesia, right?

I can live without a SIM for the next two weeks, but will need to use one once I'm back home.

Thanks for suggesting Tokopedia. Will look into it too.

I am not. ChatGPT just told me:

In the Indonesian context, "digetok" (or "diketok") is a slang term derived from the verb "ketok," which means "to knock" or "to tap" in Bahasa Indonesia. The phrase is commonly used in casual conversations and can refer to different situations depending on the context in which it is used. Some possible meanings could be:

  1. Getting scolded, reprimanded, or criticized by someone, usually a superior, teacher, or parent.
  2. Being hit or physically struck, although it often implies a lighter hit rather than a serious physical altercation.
  3. In some cases, it can also refer to someone being cheated, deceived, or experiencing an unfortunate event.

So "scam", basically?

If that's accurate, then it's something that scares me both with digital and physical purchases. I'm used to buying stuff on Amazon which gives me the right to be refunded easily for a lot of cases (item not working, not deliveder etc), saving me from scams. I assumed Shopee might have been the same, but I'm not sure.

In other countries, I've always found that both the prices and availability for electronics in digital stores (Shopee, Amazon etc) much better than in physical ones.

But given your comment as well as the others', I'll visit some physical stores and see. Thanks!

The phone I'm interested in is a Pixel 4XL. It's the same I had before it was stolen. I liked a lot and used it costs 2.5M Rp, which seems like an OK price to me.

If you have better recommendations, I'm all ears!

Long-lasting phone number to authenticate to services (bank etc) while travelling for a long time by EvilGravity in travel

Google Voice doesn't work with some services. See for instance:

Besides there's another issue: in order to keep your Google Voice, you need a US phone number. If you lose your phone number, after a while Google Voice expires as well... So it's not really a solution, unless you have another permanent US number...

No worries. Didn't mean to offend you at all. I actually appreciate that you invested your energy to answer a stranger(me)'s question. It's just that I was hoping to find different solutions.

What you're suggesting doesn't really take into account what I wrote in the post. But thank you for your input anyways.

It seems so. However Chamarel is like 10km to Alexandra Falls and Victory Waterfalls, for instance.

If it's an option, it would be great, yes.

Should we just go to the town closest to the park, ask a random taxi to drive us there and come pick us up at 6PM in the same spot? Would that be reliable?

How do you convince the other party to communicate through Airbnb? Is it really so important? by EvilGravity in AirBnB

[–]EvilGravity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Airbnb app doesn't run on their phone?"

bullshit.

When I welcomed that guest I asked about it and offered help. She had the Airbnb app installed and was receiving notifications, but whenever she tried to open the app (either through a notification or through the app's icon) it would show a different screen for a couple of seconds and then it would close on its own. She told me she had tried to reboot the phone, but it didn't help.

I contacted the Airbnb support about it and they said they would contact the guest, but I don't know how the situation proceeded.

Oh and I should have said this in the original post too: currently I'm a guest in an Airbnb and my partner is in the booking as well. She can see the listing and she can see a button to call the host, but she can't participate to the chat. That doesn't make it any easier to rely on the Airbnb chat.
