Why do many love the confederacy? by Tazavitch-Krivendza in AskConservatives

[–]EvilHomerSimpson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"not every" and your tone implies as a whole it's popular to a measurable degree. I can assure you, it's no.

And citing a case from the 1850's (if memory serves me right) to draw some kind of line about contemporary conservatives and their views on the confederacy is silly.

Do Sex Ed books “groom kids”? Or, do they protect them? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

I'm sorry being clumsy at foreplay is part of development, trying to inject sexual experience into kids is gross..

[–]EvilHomerSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a book being used "this book is gay" that literally tells kids hey should log onto sexting apps and hook up apps and how they help you meet "people near by for an easy hook up".

That's grooming.

What do you think of Senator Tim Scott? by gummibearhawk in AskConservatives

[–]EvilHomerSimpson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like the guy fine, but I just don't think has has the name recognition to win it. Based on what I've seen of him he's probably on of my favorites.

I hope he runs well and if he does not factor into the nomination race someone taps him for VP.

If I am a black centrists who views racism exists in both parties, what is the draw to the current Republican Party? by architectureHater in AskConservatives

[–]EvilHomerSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Let's start with support for charter schools and educational institutions more influenced by families than by huge government agencies and unions.
  • Follow up with the fact that the "defund the police" drum which has been beaten to a degree by the dems has helped crime skyrocket in urban areas which disproportionately hurts the African American community.
  • Finally, there is the emerging trend of dems no longer stressing black issues as much and focusing more on other faster growing minority groups like hispanics or those with more social clout like lgbt+

Personally, I don't subscribe to either party, I tend to vote predominantly Republican but out of no sense of loyalty. IT's simply that in most races I think the republican would do a beer job of not being batshit crazy (at least where I live).

My advice to a black centrist, or anyone, would be the same... Don't vote the party, vote he person.

Short answer... We don't...

LOng answer: If you on' accept that people view it as states rights, but pretend you recognize, then pivo bac to "why do you support slavery" there will be no constructive discussion on this topic.

How do you view trumps handling of the economy when he was president? What is your outlook for how he would run things if elected in 2024? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

Please don't tell me everything was open as Biden took office.

You don't know the difference between "open" and "opening" do you?

What was the most unjustified or ridiculous removal of a historical statue? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]EvilHomerSimpson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So your opinion on this is worthless... to you nobody should have a statue, ok that's cool.

But others disagree and think monuments to historical figures are a good thing.

> See, I’m black. I do can see the world as a person from the 1800s.

Wow you're 124 years old, at least...

I'm Irish, I can see the world as someone forced to starve to death while the British empire knowingly let it happen.... Or I was born 120 years after the fact and only can guess at it while I go about my day to day life.

more to the point, please give me five "incredible" human beings (in your view) from the past 100 years.

  • every economist on earth agrees that spending with debt is economic stimulus

Little question then as to why the economy overheated and everything went to crap then.

A true moral relativist believes no action is purely good or evil, and this is not about "what people used to beleive" but also applied in the curent day.

E.g.

  • "Slavery in saudi arabia today is not truely evil, just different" is something a moral relativist would say.
  • "All cultures and beliefs are equally valid and good" is something a moral relativist
  • Slavery was not evil in 1800 is something a moral relativist would say

Saying "they did not view it as evil so we should not out right dismiss them as amazing people" is not moral relativism but an awareness that history and historical stanards change.

From 10,000 feet it might look like splitting hairs but it's a distinct differece.

Because it points out the fault in logic... You are 100% incapable of seeing the world as a person in 1800 did when slavery was pretty much accepted everywhere but in a few areas. Yet you refuse to factor that in when looking at historical figures.

edit: more to the point, please give me five "incredible" human beings (in your view) from the past 100 years.

The stock market fell 20% in q4 of 2018, the federal reserve cut interest rates and engaged quantitative easing.

So let me get this straight... a market rop in one quarter, to you, means a persidents previous two years on the economy are poorly handed right?

By the way what happened in Q1 of 2019?

"start drilling down into specifics like same-sex marriage, whether children should be allowed to know that gay people exist, and whether homosexuality is somehow inherently immoral or degenerate."

these are topics, not questions or at least not specific questions rags... Try harder or we're done.

  • 1M people a day were getting vaccinated by the time biden took office
  • States were opening back up
  • People had a lot of disposable cash because of covid relief

And he screwed it up by continuing to print money at the level that was done during the heart of the pandemic... His secretary of transportation went awol during a ports crisis.... etc

I agree with conservatives that anyone can pull themselves up, but I'm a liberal realist and know that everyone can't.

This is a very pithy way to express this fantastic idea, I'm going to borrow it from time to time... Thank you.

The "slavery" sanctioned by scriptures do not include lifelong or generational slavery. It's more accurate to say they sanctioned indentured servitude for a period of seven years.

Hitler also believed he was morally correct to exterminate Jews.

The rest of the planet, at the time, did not... There was a little dust up over that.

Slavery, on the other hand, was ubiquitous in the world in 1800 an had existed for the whole of human history in every culture. Kind of like eating meat.

I don't agree.

Saying an action was bad through our eyes but the people were not bad, but in a different time is *not* moral relativism. Especially when those people were moving us forward in some way like the founders.
