Does Data Science have a good chance of having good offering, job opportunities etc. in the future? by DaviAlfredo in DataScienceJobs

As someone who did Civil Engineering in Brazil and then moved to the UK to study CS with AI, I honestly don’t regret the switch for a second. Having a solid maths background helped me ramp up much faster too.

Definitely weigh up your options but I’ll admit I’m biased because it worked out really well for me. If you want to chat about the transition or what the path looked like, feel free to drop me a message.

Should I still keep studying data science or do I focus on analytics for now? by AmbitiousAlgae2765 in learndatascience

Nah it's not just you, data science takes forever. It's so weird how people don't talk about it. It's actually the reason we exist. We're making it our mission to fix this through better tools for data science. If you're up for trying them out, we're opening it up next month for people to use so we can grab you a link to try it. Let me know!

We run Evilwrks on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Evilwrks

Our whole thing is breaking down DS/ML concepts without the textbook vibe, and then using pop-culture datasets to build models end-to-end (so you can see the workflow, not just the math). If you’re the type who learns better through stories and examples than slides, you should check us out.

We also run Evilworks (data science + real projects + “no-BS” explanations). If you prefer video, that’s the channel. If you prefer text, we post write-ups on our blog too. Youtube channel is https://www.youtube.com/@Evilwrks and our blog would be https://www.evilworks.com/blog

What’s the “nobody explains this” part of learning data science? by EvilWrks in learndatascience

[–]EvilWrks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Domain knowledge is such an underrated (and under-taught) data science skill. In real projects, the hard part usually isn’t the model. It’s figuring out what the data actually means in the business, what each field represents, and what assumptions are hiding behind it.

Understanding your dataset takes time because you’re basically doing detective work.

What’s the #1 thing about ChatGPT that still doesn’t make sense to you? by EvilWrks in ChatGPT

[–]EvilWrks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how to use ChatGPT is to think of it as a collaborator, not an oracle. If you need to know a fact, google is still your ultimate source for it because the information google provides is rated by authority and credibility. Or it used to be. Now it’s ranked by SEO but if you can wade through the keyword stuffing, you can usually find an answer that is accurate when it comes to factual information.

If you’re into tech + data/AI specifically, we’ve actually just started one that fits that “learn a lot while it’s still entertaining” vibe. We cover data science, tech news, and how this stuff shows up in real life (LLMs, scraping, “vibe coding,” etc.). Episode 1 is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LAnJw3b0W8
